Mewant steering wheel cover

I fitted a steering wheel cover from mewant ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32817299344.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.25.c7155191haDGhH ) it was only £16 and thought I'd have a punt for such a small sum. I am pleased with how it has turned out and vastly improved the feel of the standard wheel.
Took a fair few hours as I stitched every loop instead of missing every other one as car manufacturers do.

I watched a few videos of professional trimmers and decided to ignore the instructions from mewant and ditched the double back sticky tape and use leather adhesive and glue the sections where the spokes are. I removed the wheel to do this, it is much easier to sew with the wheel removed.

Glue is pretty much just a clear contact adhesive.

Just use the glue at the areas around the spokes, no where else is needed otherwise the cover will not move when the thread pulls it to join.

of course the trim was broken but easily repaired with epoxy.

Once you have the spoke areas glued, check the spoke cover fit. Once you are set sew away and enjoy!

Looks great!

I have a cover from aliexpress as well though I went with Suede a while back. You were smart and took the wheel off. I did it in situ. Never again

I enjoy the added thickness of the wheel in my hand. The increased girth feels good... #bait

You been in prison?
not yet but if I ever have the misfortune I hope my sewing keeps me from having to clean the showers :o

Thanks for the thumbs up fellas, If anyone is thinking about doing this, it really does make a helluva difference to the wheel.

Nice work. Could I ask did you order the cover directly from the website and USA?
I wonder if you ended up paying more with import tax duty? Thanks.

I was impressed with my MeWant thing too from AliExpress. At the time of ordering mine, I paid £18.22 (June 2018) but now they're a little less at £17.16. I didn't have to pay any import duty - took about a month to arrive which is pretty standard when buying stuff on AliExpress since it generally comes from China

Mine (Ignore the sh***y fascia thing, that's been replaced since ha):

You need to put a few hours aside for this job, but so rewarding!
Where the wheel spokes are you will need to stitch every one as you progress away from the spoke you can stitch every other to save time. To keep it looking even make sure you keep the same stitch, so if stitch in from the top do that every time, do not mix stitching from the top and then change to coming in from underneath.
Enjoy!
