Metallic Rattle

Wondered if anyone has had a similar rattle - it seems to be coming from behind the centre console, i.e. behind the handbrake - maybe a bit lower down. It sounds like a metallic "clinking" - it doesn't do it constantly, but more in the case of acceleration or cornering.

At first I thought it maybe a coin dropped down the seat, moving about against the seat rails - but I've checked and there's nothing there.

Any ideas anyone?

I'm pretty sure it coming from inside the car, but I guess noises can be deceptive - could it be a broken spring?

I would suggest you check the rear springs as a first option - at least having done this you will have eliminated one issue (or found the cause). Sometimes its difficult to see if the spring is broken as the bottom coil may have falled into the base of the mounting so have a good look with the wheels off if you can.

Took your advice - have had the springs checked and they're fine!

Coming from the catalytic convertor maybe - try driving close to a wall with the window down?

OK - sorted. Stupid in the end really, a 20 pence coin had fallen into this little "well" at the base of the seatbelt strap - just enough room for it to move left and right, back and forth! - Had to move the seat all the way forward and up to see it though.

Better than cheap. That's the only time I have seen anyone fix something and end up with 20p more than they started with!

Well, while down there I also found a couple of pound coins - so quids in!
