Metallic noise

I've got a very light metallic "tinkelling" noise at road speed rate -best described as light tambourine sort !
It's not audible with the roof down only with the roof on. I'm not overly worried even though I'm away on holiday in Germany. I'm at the curiosity stage at this time - unless something breaks of course.

Don't worry Ronk. It's the 'I own a premium German brand' identification noise.

Perhaps it's my over sensitive engineers ears!
I think I'll just leave the roof down and hope for the best and that I'd something does break its not at speed on the Autobahn.

I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about ( fingers crossed)

Had this on mine which I put down to the exhaust system or a resonation somewhere. It was quite noticeable on cold starts where you would hear a metallic rattling sound like a loose baffle in the exhaust system. I wander if it was the exhaust flap but only did it when moving. I would also hear it when accelerating at speed under a slight engine load. Never pursued it with the dealer as most times the engine rattle and whine would drown it out :?

No this is a constant, albeit light "tinkle" power on/off brakes on/off - almost like something in the wheel ?

Longshot, it couldn't be the rear brake pad retaining clips could it? I know on BMWs they can work loose and rattle, in fact my Z3s doing it after the dealer cleaned up the rear calipers to get it through the MOT and they're rattling slightly now.

That's an interesting thought ! It seems to be from the front and has existed from day one but I seem to have "focussed" in on the noise this time - My engineering background says its not a urgent or significant noise - more of one of bmw' s little free extras !
