Metallic clunk when pulling away

Hi,

Getting a metallic tap/clunk noise when pulling away from a stop around 90% of the time. Its almost like a noise of 2 plates coming together which makes me think possible clutch/flywheel. Car is on 82k miles and original clutch as far as I am aware, still has CDV fitted.

Happens when I pull away in 1st and reverse gears from a standstill, also hear it on gear changes when slowing down for a roundabout/turning etc.

The noise occurs after the car is in motion, it doesn't clunk before the car moves if that makes sense!

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and also anything I can do to try and identify what it is?

Also if it makes any difference to try and pinpoint there is no clunk under sudden acceleration and braking situations.

Worth looking at the prop shaft bearings I'd have thought. Then the drive shafts next.

This is a common sign of dry splines on the drive shaft near the differential. It is harmless and doesn't cause any damage. I have had the same symptoms for around 3 years. Is annoying, but that is all.

Would this noise happen after the car has started to move? I may be wrong but would have thought that kind of clunk would happen just before the car moves as the drive takes up the slack?

Mine does it just as the car starts to move. Maybe you have a different issue?
