Metallic clatter - springs? - UPDATE!

Picked up my AUC coupe on Wednesday, and on Friday there's a metallic rattle / clatter coming from rear drivers side whenever I hit a bump in the road. It literally sounds like a bag of spanners rattling around in the boot, sometimes it's there, sometimes not (I even checked to see if it was the toolkit or safety triangle which was loose). Pretty p*ssed off already as the dealer was quick to tell me about the 200+ checks they do on every used car - and since picking it up all I done is drive to and from work (plus the drive back from the dealer).

Does this sound like a broken spring? Would really appreciate any advice as the car's still very new to me obviously.

Thanks in advance.

Mine made a clunky/metal rattle noise from behind me when the spring went.

Thanks all. Just been out for a drive (can't stop grinning!). Only heard it once this time. Had a good feel of the springs before I set off and all seems fine - actually looking at them they look fairly new/clean so I wonder if they've already been replaced.

It's defo not the toolkit or warning triangle as they're secured in the boot, so it's a bit of a mystery. I did drive just now with the boot cover retracted - so I wonder if this has anything to do with it. I'll post if it comes back or I narrow it down.

Springs on mine looked clean/new but one still snapped. You won't feel it though, you will need to remove the wheel and look to see if a bit has broken off

Well the strangest thing is the noise has all but vanished. Think I've heard it once over the weekend, and that's around 100 miles covered. Can't think it's anything too serious but I'll keep listening.

Well it took me two months to finally take it to the dealer, but it turns out it was indeed a broken OSR spring. Seems highly probable that it was sold to me with the broken spring as I heard the clatter within about 100 miles of picking it up. So much for the 200 tests they carry out on all AUCs...

That being said, all fixed today (at a different dealership) with no fuss and under warranty, so all's well that ends well.

Well to be fair it could have broken after you took delivery - although they remain responsible - the usual process is (i) spring breaks, (ii) busted piece clatters/tinkles around in the spring seat for a few days until, (iii) it falls out and punctures an Audi drivers tyre
