Metal valve caps

After having my Z4 wheels refurbed I bought some metal valve caps with little BMW logos to finish the job, tyre pressue monitor came on yesterday so I got the gauge to check the tyres and guess what ? can't shift the caps, any of them.
tried using pliers but the whole valve is turning...bugger. So tomorrow it's off to a tyre place to have the valves replaced, will replace with cheap plastic ones, what a faff !

I had the same issue with one of mine..ended up cutting it off with a Dremmel so I've put some grease on all mine now and take them off everytime i clean the wheels to make sure they don't seize on
 
Just a thought. .wouldn't it be cheaper to buy some plusgas and let that soak in for a night rather than go to all the faff and expense of valve changes..
 
work of the devil these things! Stick to plastic ones or the OEM bmw ones which are metal but never seem to stick on :D
 
Bought a second set of 290's last week lovely looking Bmw logo metal ones stuck on. Wd40 soaked for 15 mins then mole grips on valve and pliers on cap and all off. Looked so good off for 30 seconds considered grease and refit but binned !!!. Best decision as I could picture next time they were on the car I wouldn't be so lucky :headbang: rubber every time :o
 
Been there, done that. In driving snow at -15C in Poland with a flat.
Truck driver lent me a butane lighter to heat it up, then some wd40 and a bit of elbow grease and it was off. Lesson learned.
Throw them away.
 
Maybe you're not checking your tyre pressures frequently enough :poke:

Had them on my car for 9 years and not got stuck once. The only time I have plastic ones on is when I'm having a tyre changed, as I take them off before the tyre fitters throw them away.

I paid about £4 for pack of about 50 a few years ago (nickel plated with little gaskets in the top), as I have to replace mine when the local kids nick them for their bikes.

The OEM BMW one's on my daily driver seized up as well. As has been said, grease before installing :thumbsup:
 
I had same problem with Audi logo caps bought off eBay. They are made in China with cheap metal which corrodes very quickly and then seizes. I ended up using a cooks blow torch and moles grips to get them off. Contacted the seller via eBay, as expected, no response.

Best avoided IMHO.
 
Yep had this problem too

I don't tighten them as much now when I put them back on - rather they came loose and fell off ( which they haven't so far) than go through the mole grips and pliers saga again

They do look good though :headbang:
 
Had new valves fitted today but the pressure monitor is still on, tyres at 32 front 35 rear, as I don't have a handbook I don't know how to get it off and what does the button with the pressure monitor on do ?

Not had this issue my self but dry use only anyways
But always use copper grease in the cap guys
As alloy will oxidize and stick generally ruining valve

Someone must know ??

Start the car press the button for about 3 seconds then drive off, light should go out after about 10meters or so IIRC
