Messing about with HDR

Whats HDR? I think my iphone does something called HDR but isnt that just different exposures?

Really like those pictures!

So we've got animators/graphic designers making computer-generated works almost indistinguishable from the real thing, and photographers making the real thing look like computer-generated works :P

Nice Stuart

Bracketed jpg's or from a single?

Bracketed 5 RAW files. -2, -1, 0, +1 and +2 straight into Photomatix. Minor tweaks on one of their presets.

I'm not usually a fan of his overblown HDR, but I was messing about with it and son said "oh, that's cool" so I decided to throw it up for comment :)

ive wanted to know how to do this for sooo long!!

Download a free trial of Photomatix and mess around with it. Their site has some trial images to play with.

Http://www.stuckincustoms.com has a free tutorial also and a discount code for Photomatix if you're keen enough to buy it

Very interesting. That's a great wiki article. I've seen posts on an HDR forum or two and on reviews of HDR software by folks that call themselves real photographers (thus not HDR fans) of one form or another. Lambasting anyone that uses HDR. As HDR involves to much processing and really isn't a pure form of photography. Yet have no problem with and don't see that the enormous processing of multiple layers that is done in the full PhotoShop is the same thing. So I found it rather funny that HDR (Gustave Le Gray) predates film by some 35 years.

I've used photomatix and enjoy it. Along with DxO optics pro for non HDR stuff. But like all forms of photo processing. Whether it be PS or an HDR program. One can get stuck in a rut by using the same process on every picture.

Look good. I like the way they convey a feeling - magical as Ruby Blue says. Photomatix is an interesting program as it offer so much variety. The same three RAW files can be manipulated to create vastly different images, depending on what you're wanting to create. Most of my entries for the photo comp have been HDR.
