Merlot red - good or bad?

What is the consensus on this colour?

I like it but would hate to buy a car that I couldn't sell come resale!

Peronsally I like it, although maybe not with a black roof. But I know what you mean - I don't think I would buy something that would be really difficult to sell.

Interestingly I noticed these this morning - just come on with the same dealer, both 2003, both 2.5i and within 1,000 miles on the clock of each other and yet £1,000 difference in price? The silver is an auto, but is it worth that much?

£8,995

Compared to:

£9,995

A typo?
(I hope I haven't missed something really obvious!)

My advice? If you like it, thats all that matters - buy it and enjoy it. What the hell do this lot know about good taste? :poke:

It's ok-ish, but I think I'd personally get bored of the colour.

I feel bored of mine ocassionally just because I see so many in silver!

I think a US chap who joined recently has one in Merlot with a beige hood which I like... even better when he upgades the wheels :poke:

I think Merlot looks great. Especially well detailed and in the sunlight--it just pops :)

oddball colors are my favorite when it comes to color choices :P

Bored of the colour?!!!! We drive GREY cars Peddy :poke: :D

Its not a colour that looks good when the cars not clean. If you can find a picture of one with chrome insert headlights you can see how lifted the colour looks.

Surprising because the cheaper one also has the better wheels. I've not read the ads though.

Actually I have just had another looks and it gets odder... the specs are almost identical except, in addition to the wheels, the merlot car (58k miles) has PDC with the silver car (57k miles) does not?

That one looks fantastic imo ^^^^ especially with the clear headlights.

Mine is Merlot and I love it, I had a grey Type R before this and hated seeing so many, and would be the same on the Z4 with so many being grey. I think dark colours look better, and I cba with black as it is difficult to keep looking good. And if I got mine cheaper due to it being an uncommon colour, then thats win win for me.

It's a nice colour and not the most outlandish really.
I think people are sometimes fearful of owning a sports car and have it in a stand out/unusual colour. If it's grey or black it just merges in with the rest, if it's red or white it draws a lot more attention to the driver. I had an S2000 in bright orange and I got more stares/attention driving that into Liverpool than I do even with the 'M' - loud exhausts and all! There's always the 'resale' worry with an unusual colour, not that it ever bothers me :)

I like the colour and before settling on a Sterling grey almost went for one. Problem was as with many things it was the combo of Merlot, beige hood and walnut dash that made it look (to my wife) like a gentlemens club on wheels and not a sports car.

To me it's a colour that I could live with, will age gracefully and has a certain class to it, unlike to borrow sammyz pword 'outlandish'

Bottom line is if you like it an plan to keep it a while go for it. If 2 year quick sale is what matters then go safe.

Shoulda just bought her Havana and taught her how to 'humph' loudly.... :P

Nice colour was one of my other choices had i not found Silver if one had come along in the same condition and same spec as mine i would have been very tempted.

That colour would be very rewarding to detail.

TBH when I was looking for a Z4 I went on price and condition rather than immediately looking at colour. Black was the only colour I wanted to avoid - had black before but couldn't live with forever cleaning it! Not so keen on the flat red colour either (not the M colour). Happy with silver as it's a classic (other word for common?) colour and suits the Z4 well IMO.

That Merlot does look nice though, especially with the clear headlamps.

I think it does have more of a classic look in burgundy("Merlot red") which I don't think is a good thing. Like many things it's each to their own!

Blue everytime for me....
