Mercedes dealers

Wife needs a new car and fancies a change from audi , car allowance now demands 4 doors , the grade she is points towards 5 series , e class , both far to big and useless to 2 people .
So she argued her case and she can drop down a class as long as it's top spec , so off we go to the usual suspects , merc and bmw . We parked outside the merc dealership in chester and spent 20 mins looking at c class saloons and estates and not one person asked us if we needed any help , not even the receptionist ! 2 salesmen actually walked past us , looked , then scurried off to the office without even speaking .
Walked into bmw chester with shopping bags ,our car was parked in nearby retail park , and they couldn't have been more helpful .
340i touring it is then

I must say we experienced the same luke warm reception at Mercedes in Guildford. Went on a Rainy Sunday as we wanted to try and find a C Class in Brilliant Blue - or any car in that colour to check we liked it before ordering. Nobody was interested. We walked around the cars peering inside as they had a new class there. Nobody came out.

We went inside, receptionist didn't even look up. There were 3 salesmen inside, one was with an elderly couple. We walked round, loitered by the reception and nobody even asked if we were ok. We gave up in the end and went home.

BMW wasn't an option this time as the 4 series gran coupe we wanted was too expensive compared to the fully loaded C300h.
Just hope we like it in Brilliant blue :)

Congrats on your new purchase! Did you go SE or M Sport and what colour?

She has to get it signed off yet , the company she works for prefers you to spend all your car allowance on a car , not beer on a weekend !
M sport , adaptive suspension , heated electric seats in champagne quartz with oyster - dark oyster interior , I've pointed her this direction as her company policy is cars up to 6 year old with less than 100k miles , so in six years I'll own it !
strangely enough she drove a 320d grand coupe but when she asked about buying it she got a resounding no from the company , to sporty apparently

I had the same reaction fromMercedes Chester.Visiting Mercedes Shrewsbury was a different story.Greeted ,cup of tea,and all sorted for test drives, and this was without an appointment.Three test drives later, all in different models, and we were ready to change the wife's Audi A6 avant for a Mercedes C class Estate. She wanted something smaller and the offer and professionalism of the sales team was nearly on par with Porsche, who I deal with, in Chester.Just waiting for the car to arrive,2 litre petrol sport with numerous packs, auto, in Brilliant Blue.

Porsche chester are unbelievably good , never bought a car but I've bought odds and ends and the customer service is second to non in the parts depot , it must be great in the showroom , unfortunately I can't afford the entrance fee !

Strange, I purchased my car from Mercedes Guildford and couldn't be happier with the service I got. In fact I chose the C-Class over the 420d, as BMW (just down the road for anybody familiar with Guildford's Slyfield area) could not have been less interested in selling me a car. Repeated requests for a test-drive were ignored.

That experience however, did help immeasurably with negotiating my M4 from BMW Guildford (from a different salesman might I add)

Similar poor experience at Mercedes Aberdeen when looking for my wifes car last year - very offhand salesman - put my wife off the car. BMW John Clark very helpful and the guy got very close to selling an X3 to my wife and she hates BMWs normally - difference was night and day. As we are 60 miles away from the next main dealer the quality of the local main dealer makes a real difference to us.

would concur that Porsche are usually very helpful particularly in the service side of things, in terms of sales was pretty impressed by Mini when we went to look - salesman knew his stuff, dealership was immaculate .

I bought my E-class from Robinsons in Cambridge and it was only after I took it back for minor warranty work that I realised how bad they were. Really. I got so sick of excuses; "...you can't pick up your car this afternoon, we don't know where it is..." and "...you can't pick up your car this afternoon as we've smashed the windscreen whilst sorting out the handbrake issue..." And many more, too. Truly shocking. I always knew when they were lying because their lips were moving.

It's the servicing costs at Mercedes that have pushed me back to BMW, as of my last service at 48,000 miles, I have spent a total of £1,300 on servicing :o

The 5 years or 50,000 miles servicing for £475.00 is a no brainer on my new 4 series convertible.

Oh on the 4 series Grand coupe, how stupid is your wife's employer, some jobs worth no doubt who has no interest in cars :headbang:

Well spotted Sars although as it took ownership to spot it i guess its a little late
The MB service regime is nothing short of a con & ranks alongside pyramid schemes imo
Quite how they get repeat sales is beyond me , if the service requirements were necessary or even realistically priced it wouldn't be so bad , my dad has recently sold his 2007 C class (bought new) & looking through his paperwork to advertise the car for him they charged him almost £500 to service the autobox on his 2nd B service :o that is nothing short of robbery when i had our BMW X3 autobox oil changed for £65 recently

Wow Sars I missed that-any pics? :)

It's not about the brand, it's about the dealership management. Whether it's ford or Bentley, they will both have crap and excellent dealerships.

The local BMW dealership is ok. The local MB dealership is great.

I negotiated the deal on my Dads car from Halliwell Jones, Chester. I was 21 at the time and looked about 12. We walked in he went his way and before I knew it I had umpteen people asking if they could help, show me the cars I was looking at etc. just a great atmosphere and much better experience than the BMW I had bought my then Mini from who would have let me walk out the door.

340i, good choice!
