Mercedes A45 AMG 2016 model

I was actually in a Merc dealer on Saturday looking for one to test drive - sadly theirs was 'out' (sales guy clearly took it home for the weekend). I actually got more turned on by the dark grey C63 coupe - man maths told me it is in fact a hatch too, but with 487bhp, annoyingly doesn't really offer me much above the Zed beyond back seats (that you have to climb into). Hatches are certainly more practical as a second/daily car - Seats down = small van! :D

I've done most of the rounds - m135i is very nice car, but not 'special' or any sense of occasion compares to the RS3/Merc/Golf R, and the Golf R doesn't do it for me that much either. Both Merc and Audi interiors are easily better than anything BMW has produced recently, even compared to the 70k specced up M3 i tried two weeks ago (tbh only the Opal white leather made it feel anything better than a standard 320d).

I'm hovering over an RS3 order button, i can have one in 4 weeks but i'm still not 100% due to having to lump out for a new kitchen mid car-decision-process and has somewhat sapped up my time. I think if you're looking at a hyperhatch you need to be already not too concerned about the cost.

Before you buy how about this from the same stable, looks a lot better than the A series

I'm so tempted by this Sars - personally hugely prefer it over the M4 (not necessarily the M3 though), but the price... they're so much!

EDIT: Even the new C200 Coupe in the local dealer felt more premium than the M3/M4 did :/

Quick word of caution re the evo.co.uk link posted earlier. My A/V software flagged up a potential trojan:

Think you might be mixing that up with the C63. This is the new C43 which is being introduced as Mercedes first sub AMG car (sort of like what the S3 is to the RS3 or the M235i to the M2). It's AMG Lite. Rumoured to be about £7k more than an A45.

They are stating the list as £47k, which for 368 bhp and 4 wheel drive is pretty good. I honestly think this is the best looking coupe on the market by a long way

Was that MB World for a test drive at the weekend ? The nice cars are only available Mon-Fri as yes, you guessed it, they take them home !

Where was the RS3 available in 4 weeks ? I thought the waiting list was a year ?

Nah i was just at local MB garage, having had a play with the C63 i'm somewhat interested in them now in a kind of YOLO mentality.

There's about a 6 month wait on RS3s, but dealers have a few order slots going through regardless, you just need to find a spec amendable one that you can re-config to your choice (or find one they have in your spec loosely already, and use the fact it isn't perfect for negotiations).

M2 is made of unobtainium, and huge wait to get one, plus isn't really a hatch.

I just spec'd an RS3 to the same level as the A45 AMG and it was £6K more than the Merc !! ... and out of my price range. I am stretching more than I want really to an A45 AMG so best I don't look any more ! Lol

I know the RS3 will sound loads better but is too dear realistically and more of a theft / criminal damage target in my mind than the A45 which is more subtle if not spec'd with 19" black wheels and a silly roof spoiler ;)

if you were looking at PCP - ignore the ticket price, it's irrelevant. the cost to you is the deposit+monthly, which is a product of the GMFV - which you'll have to ask them for (based on your desired spec)

I have ... and it was a silly price ! Far more than I can afford and £150 a month more than the equivalent A45 AMG.

mental, wonder what the GMFV is on A45's then. MB lost my A45 business when they let their only example of the car be used on a jolly by a sales guy so nobody can actually see it to buy one!

The GMFV is average I think but the figures simply don't work out for me. People say the A45 is as dear as the RS3 when it isn't after you make the spec the same. Most stuff is std on the A45 Premium model ... panoramic roof, leccy seats, keyless go, etc. These are all extras on the Audi and make it very £££. An M135i is an absolute bargain compared to an A45 ... and an A45 is seemingly a bargain compared to the RS3 !

I know what you mean re test drives. I was after a drive from Sandown Mercedes in Guildford but when I asked them if they could match the lower (only by £500) price I had been given elsewhere (Bolton) they got all funny and said they wouldn't be able to arrange a test drive as I was likely to buy somewhere else.

I pointed out it was not far out and I was very much keener on buying local but they haven't even given me the courtesy of a reply ! Very poor !! I phone MB Brooklands and they offered a drive without any pressure at all. Their price was also OK so guess who will get the order if I go ahead !! And guess who will take delight in emailing the sales manager and DP naming the salesman who cba to speak to me. He didn't take me seriously and will lose a sale. I don't normally bother following up poor customer care but this time I will. MB Brooklands were excellent. Sandown MB rubbish after a decent start ... until I talked prices.

Just to be clear in my head I think it was only right to book a test drive in an RS3 anyway

Monday 1130 ... lets see if it is worth the difference I can't afford :D

Still, with apparently a 9 month wait I would be able to afford it - but only having a 799cc Smart diesel for 9 months may be 'difficult'

A45 AMG now ordered ... didn't bother with the RS3. Too dear by the time you add all the options.

I now have to wait until the end of May :(

Wow! I think we all knew it was going to happen. When you get that 'itch' you just need to scratch it. So Spec? Colour?

Oh and most importantly is the E89 being traded or are you going to try and sell privately?

End of May isn't that far and between then and now if you've still got the E89 you might get a last few blasts in before you cocoon yourself with a fixed roof.
