MENU Button not working

Hi

I've got a Z4 Coupe Sport with the sat nav, but the MENU button to switch between the sat nav / telephone / computer started working intermittently, now it's not working at all. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if you have any suggestions for the best way to get it sorted. I cant use the phone or the other functions otherwise it's really tricky to get back to the sat nav which is a real pain when trying to find your way somewhere!

Thanks a lot for your help....

I don't have Nav, but I'm pretty sure the button construction is identical. I accidentally let a small drop of protectant wick between the button and the faceplate. That stuff is not conductive and leaves messy residue when it dries, I found out.

I took out the head unit and separated & disassembled the faceplate. Getting it apart was a bit fiddly, and I needed a very small Torx driver (T8). Your faceplate is different, could be even more fiddly, the problem was related to the knob workings and associated light guide preventing simple removal. Once separated, all the buttons fell out at once, so have a photo handy for reassembly.

The button contacts are easy to clean once disassembled. They consist of interlaced forks on the PCB. A rubber sheet above them, similar to those found in TV remotes, has little conductive bits that contact the interlaced forks, they should be checked and cleaned as well. Also ensure no foreign matter is shorting between the fork tines.

The whole thing probably took 2 hours, mainly because of fiddling with the knob workings.
