MELBOURNE RED OR NOT

I am in the process of buying a March 2016 Z4 2.0i in red.
The garage tell me the car is in Melbourne Red non metallic.
I always thought Melbourne Red was a metallic colour and
that this Z4 might be just crimson red. The vehicle document
just gives red.
Can anyone advise me on this matter?
Thank you.

If you can get the VIN number from the garage there are web sites that will give you the full build spec and options from the VIN.
There should also be a sticker on the car giving the paint code (I think it’s under the bonnet)

Ask them to confirm the paint code (door shuts/under the bonnet)

Paint code for Melbourne Red is A75
Paint code for Crimson Red is A61

My F22 is Melbourne red and in normal (dull) conditions you would think it’s non metallic but on the rare occasions the sun shines up here then it does pick up the metallic elements in the paint.

You don’t see many E89’s in red. I like the colour but wanted something different from my ‘daily’ so went orange (the best colour) :poke:

Ask the question on Google and the answer is that A75 (which is what mine is) is Melbourne Red Metallic. Could there also be a Melbourne Red which is non metallic just to cause confusion?

My 335d is Melbourne Red.
In normal light you can't really tell, but on a sunny day, especially with my nose up close polishing, I can see the metallic fleck.
Kind of a ninja metallic

Melbourne red isn't metallic

My F20 1 series was Melbourne Red and it most definitely was metallic.

On my programme Melbourne and Crimson come up as normal reds,

What programme are you using? it most definitely is metallic but as others have pointed out it's quite a mild metallic sometimes when you look at it you can't see the metallic flakes. It's a gorgeous colour though. It's the only thing I miss from my 1 Series

It does have a pearl tint to it I agree but isn't classed as a metallic colour

When I ordered my 1 Series the brochure stated metallic, so I think it is. It also appears in the configurator under metallics.

Thank you all for the replies to my query.
There seems to be differing opinions over
whether it’s a metallic red or not.
I will get the paint code from under the
bonnet when I take possession of the car.
Why did I not think of that.
Will keep you posted with the answer in
due course.

I found the paint code eventually on the drivers side door panel beside the tyre pressure plate.
It was A75 so it’s definitely Melbourne Red.
Waiting for a sunny day to see the metallic fleck in it.
Thank you all for your advice.
