Meguiars DA G220 polisher - Issues

Has anyone else experienced issues with the Meguiars G220 ?
For example only working when the rotary power switch (goes from 0 to 6) is on 6 (FULL). :|

I had to get the original one i bought in 2014 replaced, but i took that back to Halfords as it was just inside the 12months of purchase. This replacement unit is about 18months old, and only used 2 or 3 ties and the exact same problem (Only works on FULL). :|

I have contacted Meguiars UK and i am awaiting a response....... (Watch this space). Just wondered if this is something others have experienced?

Hi, I've got the same machine & not experienced any problems-it sounds as though it's just the variable switch that's faulty, that shouldn't be an expensive part?

Thats what i was thinking, and i have suggested they send me the part for free or refund me or send me a whole new polisher, because after happening twice (and i have since found this issue happening a lot online) makes me think the product is not fit for purpose.
I bought it because its Meguiars, a brand that markets it self on quality.

Unfortunately the response I'd expect. These are very simple machines, so I would indeed go to a local hardware store to see if they can mend it.

They are all Chinese made, so the Megs name won't mean too much

Have you had a look at the switch and seen if the VR is gummed up or full of dust?

Yep,
and YEP. Totally clean like new. Its also not the brushes.

Its cheap s**t priced at the very top end of the market, hence its now discontinued.

The Meguiar's DA system is actually a really neat bit of kit!
Maybe a little pricey at £58-60 quid, but my mates got one and the results are just as good as a professional polisher

Im holding out for Meguiars to send me one as a good will gesture (im thinking i have no chance).

If you take it apart is there a part number on the variable resistor that the thumb wheel turns? Very often you can mend stuff easily by swapping out obviously failed components - sometimes it takes a bit of Googling to track them down tho....

Also if you have access to a multimeter with a bit of common sense you can often work out what's wrong.
