I'll try to get down there this summer in my new car (Z4M Coupe).
This was my last lap in september, with my exited italian friend Gimmo next to me.

Driving during weekdays is a good thing if you want to avoid traffic.

If you want to see some really strange driving on the ring get yourself on to bridgetogantry.com and witness the arsehole in the m4 video , truly shocking that someone would drive like he does anywhere , never mind on a public day on a dangerous track !

I've got plenty of stories of things like that.
One involving a couple of C63 AMG Mercs...
The regular one I get is obviously from Ring virgins/newbies...
Still really pee'd off that I don't have my GoPro running all the time (battery life/overheating/etc.) as I'd have caught lots of stuff to put on youtube. Best 'near misses' are:
1) 3 cars (Artega GT, Porsche Cayman S, and BMW Z4MC) all floor it through Antoniusbusche and into Tiergarten. We get to the first corner slightly behind each other (Artega, Cayman, then me) but spread across the whole track (Artega on the right, me on the left) and then the Artega brakes, followed by the Cayman, and then me. So we end up at the corner parallel to each other and not enough space for all of us to get through. I take it on my own back to do something about it and lift of the brakes and tap the throttle to get pas, just as the Artega decides he needs to move left to take the corner (i.e. avoid the impending armco), the Cayman moves left to avoid the Artega right into the space I'm just vacating. I think I could see the brown deposits on the track.
2) Following a 1M into T13, he's having a bit of fun with the electronic aids off as he's swerving from side-to-side and spinning up the rears but still accelerating, so I stay a good distance behind him. Come into T13 and he brakes hard which causes me to catch up to him and then he slings it sideways to go through the corner. Doesn't go very well after the first slide as it swings back the other way, then the other and he finally comes to a stop at a tangent to the track, right in front of me. Choice was straight on (T-Bone), right (armco) or left (concrete kerb and grass). About to head for the grass when he finds a gear or something and he shoots onto the grass to recover. Just had enough time to slam on and come to a halt before I hit him. Followed him for a bit before he let me past as he didn't seem to want to attempt to drift it any more.
The biggest problem at the 'Ring is that we all think we're driving gods. The regulars realise that a VW Golf can be as fast/faster than a GT3 depending on who's driving and what's been done to the car. There's a old Mini Estate that's flat out everywhere - of course it's not standard (turbo'd Honda VTEC) and the driver is a local, but it will overtake you anywhere and in any weather. One minute your mirrors are clear then it's overtaking you round the outside of a corner that you're barely holding yourself. Doesn't even use stick rubber - seems to run on Yokohama A539s.
And just for giggles, here's my mate in his e34 M5 (the same one I used to own) from last weekend, holding up another S54 - without video/datalogging he doesn't believe he's holding me up (even though his best lap time is about 30s slower than mine). It doesn't perform badly for a 20 year old, 1800kg car, and absorbs the bumps better than a Z4MC. Although it has been upgraded to non-OE, non-electronic dampers and has a shorter diff. Biggest downside is that it's running at about 6-7mpg so his tank does the same number of laps as mine, despite being almost twice the size :thumbsdown:

Used to the latter one now, so leave a bigger gap than I used to, but still get caught out by some cars/owners you'd think were more experienced (e.g. Porsche GT3s, stripped & caged M3s, etc.)mmm-five said:

Last year a v8 m3 chased me all the way to Adenauer , I'm in a standard 3.0 z4 but know my way round , he tried a couple of times to come past but bottled it and chose to tailgate me most of the time , approaching Adenauer I stay right to turn in late , he decides it's time to overtake , I caught a glance of him in the mirror so braked and you know what happened next 
If I had of turned in at speed he would have been in my passenger seat , as it was he smacked the kerbs at speed , slid over the grass re joined the track beside me and accelerated as hard as he could just to make sure I knew he had a faster car than mine
I let him go for 30 secs or so then drove the rest of the lap carefully , half expecting to see him in the Armco somewhere , I didn't by the way .
Evening sessions only for me these days , and even then I spend more time watching than lapping , it seems more dangerous every time I go , although that's probably my age :lol:
