Meee again! Another emissions light fault

Hello again, some of you may remember that every few months my emissions light comes on and something else has gone wrong with my s**t heap of a car. Well today after having the cat replaced about 5 months ago, it came back on, surprise surprise.

This time, new oxygen sensor was needed.

So in the space of less than 18 months - new exhaust manifold after the first light, then new cat, now oxygen sensor.

Thank god I bought the warranty thats all I can say. Going to be selling the car around September time - maybe ive had a bad one but I wont be purchasing another BMW in a hurry.

Had the same sh*t with my 911, ended up with 6.000 euro worth of invoices... Sold it a few months later as the trouble didn't seem to stop. And as you said, lost my faith a little in that 911 model. But then I got my Zed and now almost a year later, not one single problem, purrs like a kitten... I guess you just never know with second hand cars... But it doesn't mean that if you get another one, you will have the same trouble. In fact: what are the odds that you would have another sh*t car (if you pay attention of course)? Might still be worth looking into...

Have to say though: I bought mine from an official BMW dealer where they had sold the car brand new in the past, had just 1 owner and was maintained in the same garage and sold to me in the same garage. So I really had the full history of anything that was done to the car and got 1 year warranty too. I paid a little more than it would probably have been worth at that time, but I wanted a little more security.

Anyway, I do hope you get it all sorted and with some luck, maybe this will be the last problem?

Bought mine from a good dealer, 1 owner, full BMW history which checked out with the garage... and still full BMW history! Guess I still picked a bad one though.

Don't be put off the Z Gary , generally E85/E86 are well built & problem's known & relatively cheap to sort .
Get shut & go 3.0 would be my advice

These 2.0i engines seem to give more trouble than the 6cyl models, you are not alone, just ask Andysat.

We must all have owned a duffer at some point. I had a 2005 Range Roverv Vogue which was terrible. 20 faults in 3 months of ownership - sold it after that as had totally lost faith that it would ever work right.

Hope you get yours sorted!

I've owned a E39 525d for 7 years and done 85k (138k on the clock) its never failed an MOT and never had any work done on it not bad for a 10 year old car so not all BMWs are the same sorry to hear about your car GaryH but don't write off all BMWs

Si-forks is tapatalking

I've had a few irritating problems with my ///M but my E46 320d has been completely reliable, needing only a replacement for a split rubber hose and a new clutch at 150k miles

I have wondered if the 6cyl are better - though many of the faults seem to be non engine related..... I guess its true of any car, though from experience I have always found Jap cars to be more fault free than other makes. I had a VW Golf once, what a bag of shite that was!
