Mechanic recommendations in Norwich

Hi all,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good mechanic in/near Norwich? I’m away working and my 2003 Z4 e85 has developed an intermittent steering wobble.

Cheers,

Cookie

I can recommend David Colk, right behind the BP garage on Mousehold.

He does the majority of my work :D

Enuff_zed on here is from Attleborough and is very knowledgable, however, I don’t know if steering is under his remit 🤷🏼‍♂️

Where are you based and what colour is the car? I’m in Sprowston with a grey E85

Whilst I'm more than happy to help where I can, I know my limits and a wheel wobble could be anything from a buckled rim to a missing weight or a deformed tyre. I don't have balancing kit or anything to help diagnose.
Interesting that its intermittent though?
Any particular roads? Or driving conditions? Does it only start when everything has got hot?
So much to consider.

However, by all means keep me in mind if you need help of other kinds. I've done a few jobs for local people and it seems to be going ok for now.
Norfolk Zed Rescue at your service. :D

EDIT: Just re-read your post and it seems you are working near Norwich, not based here???

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses and recommendations. I tried David Colk. He was great on the phone, but unfortunately just too busy that week to take a look. I tried the garage where he gets his MOTs done, but they couldn’t diagnose the problem.

Ending up driving back to London and taking it to my usual mechanic - Brown’s Road, Surbiton near where I live. Tony there sort it with a wheel balance. Car is now good as gold.

Surprised me that a wheel balance issue could be so intermittent. But there we go, learn something new every day!

Thanks again for your help everyone.

Cheers,

Cookie

Not intermittent, however as the speed changes, so does the frequency of the vibration. Someone will be along shortly who remembers their O-level physics better than I do, but basically......

at certain frequencies the car will damp better than others, and if it is at the frequency where the harmonics coincides with the square root of the sine of the distance between the coils in the springs coupled then it will be more noticable. However it also depends on the square of the viscosity coefficient of the damping fluid at the ambient temperature, hence it happens 'randomly' as on a warm day the fluid is less viscous so will be apparent at lower speeds.
