Measuring Oil Quantity

About to do my first oil change on my 2.5si and don't really like the fact that there is no dipstick. I know it takes roughly 6.5l but wondering what extent you guys go to in order to make sure it is filled with the correct quantity? I'm not sure how accurate the measurements are on the side of the oil containers so was thinking about getting a measuring jug. Measuring the amount that drains out and putting the same amount back in. It's currently reading full on the computermabob. Any opinions?

Hi,

Get yourself a measuring jug from the supermarket, and fill with exactly 6.5L, reading the marks on the side of the oil cans is a bit hit and miss.

After a change it takes a few miles for the electronic "Dipstick" to give an accurate reading, I've done mine a few times now and its always read full after adding 6.5L to an empty sump.

Stu.

As above. Certainly don't measure what came out and put that amount back in. The car will have naturally "consumed" some of the oil so if you did it that way you'd probably under fill it. 6.5lt is all you need. I use the wife's measuring jugs and stick them in the dishwasher when finished before she finds out. :P
