But using that argument BMW and Mercedes are no lesser pedigree than Porsche, which I can see the Porsche afficionados choking on their cake over. Both have been or are competing at the highest level in Motorsport and both are current champions (BMW -DTM, Mercedes - F1). Both have been involved in some of the most iconic road cars ever too (either producing them or powering them).
I just don't see a volume mass produced model like a 911 in the same category as a McLaren at all. It's like comparing a nice off the peg designer label suit with a Saville Row suit. There are brand hierarchies in cars like in other industries - and Porsche's top end is Mclaren's bottom end.
