McLaren 570s V Z4MC

Didn’t quite drop the bombshell it was supposed to, but there weren’t many made and it might be a canny purchase.

Yeah, I was reading about the depreciation these have faced, which given there is only 999 world wide is a little surprising. I've had a few drives in the normal v10+ and it's an epic machine with a phenomenal engine...definitely very much a contender. I really like them, but my missus has a real hate of all Audi's given how temperamental the TTRS has been....over the same mileage it's cost at least £5k more than the MC in maintenance.

The Boxster GTS is an amazing car, easily the best of what you can buy new for that level of money (we started out looking for a 981 GTS)....and way more performance than you ever need....but I tend to try to look at total cost of ownership when considering cars now (how much do you pay for it over the term and how much do you get back). If your car does as well as the previous gen, then it'll cost you very little in the next 2 years...but buying new at that money worries me too much to be honest (it could be a £40k car in 2022). Weirdly, Mclaren have a financial model where YOU can take the risk on the future value of the car to get your monthly payments down to a level that is baffling (not for me). I'm looking at the 12-C and older Lambo's and thinking this car won't drop much below £70k by 2022.....so if it does that then it'll cost a very similar amount to own as the 718 GTS in my man maths. Of course the risk is much higher, but I think the car is worth that risk.

Yep I get the depreciation side but two things sway my thinking, firstly I’m not in your league financially, 95k is way to much for me given the warranty costs, tyres, brakes, consumables etc, on top. Then as I said earlier it’s a very hardcore sports car, just too much temptation to resist ragging it to even 50% of its capability would probably result in disaster. The piggy GTS is a nice car to drive normally as much as ‘briskly’ and given the spec I’ve ordered I think it’ll retain a good value come 4 yrs if I come to sell, which, as far as I can imagine, I won’t do as this will be a keeper.....I hope.

Short of a lottery win I'm never going to be in the position of considering purchasing a Mclaren but if I was then I'd have one nagging doubt. I've been led to believe that if you take your lovely new car anywhere near a track then you will void the warranty. You'd be spending a lot of money on a very capable car that you could never really drive how it was designed to be driven.

beautiful choice, congrats. Had a poke around one and they're just beautiful in every sense of the word.

Toyed with the idea and a huracan / gallardo and had a good look around one - but down here, the same car starts at 160k (gbp) and then you have to pay another 13k of stamp duty on top :( almost double the money before you've even started to worry about depreciation and maintenance :headbang:

They're such an embodyment of everything that McLaren should be

Lovely looking car the Mclaren..

My friend had one for a while,i was lucky enough to have a passenger ride in it for a couple of hours.

Unfortunately he had a few issues with his and ended up getting rid. IIRC it had serious water leaks into the cabin and he had issues with the alloy panels corroding under the paint, causing bubbles on the surface..

He sold and bought an Mercedes AMG GT.

I know 3 people who have had them and all 3 went horribly wrong. In fact, one broke down on a forecourt and blocked a dealership for a day.

Until they sort this, my money would go elsewhere i'm afraid which is a shame as they look and drive amazingly!

R8 V10 for £60k and pocket the saving. You’ll save a lot on deprecation and have a NA V10 at your disposal. 1st gen R8s still look great IMO, better than the 2nd gen.

Wildcard option: new NSX. Down to 100k now.

R8 v10 is where I’d like to go next, maybe once the mortgage is cleared :D

I really want to like Mclaren but there is no doubt about some of the reliability issues they're having. A good friend and colleague has had numerous and now has this -

He is a fanboy and would say "all supercars have their issues" but the issues are throughout from doors to engines. I would have jumped on a used 570GT by now but I'm scared of the potential issues. You're at the mercy of the dealer and after having been hung out to dry on a Range Rover crankshaft issue I no longer feel a manufacturers warranty is as watertight as I used to.

Great cars when they work though.

Have to have an Auto as the missus doest drive manual and she wants to drive this car!

Rules out the R8 V10 manual, which really is a no brainer buy right now at <£60k...IMO these will be £100k cars again in 5 years time! The 991.1 GT3 is also an option, but it's a 5 year old car now that's back at it's list price....doesn't feel like a bargain.

I see the mistake you made with this purchase :D

Lovely car and great colour really looks well, I'll keep my eyes out for it on the roads of Essex.

Any idea yet what the running costs would be on it yet, (annually) barring any issues?

my son works for Mclaren and I went to a factory open day which was fun although you weren't allowed in the cars, but you could see lots of the cars on the production line (which wasn't working either!). 20181020_125834.jpg

Didn't do it for me though ... and even contemplating £30k depreciation over 3 years is giving me nightmares! I guess if you've got it, flaunt it! :D
