MC to 335 to MR

I've gone from a '53 Z4 3.0SE, to a '55 645ci and on Wednesday will be going to a '57 Z4MR. Interesting to hear your comments coming from a 'newer' (I say that, in terms of product generation, features such as iDrive etc.) BMW back to the Z4. I'm looking forward to getting my MR however I'm going to miss the big screen nav and head-up display on the 6 :(

How did you find the 645? I'm considering one to replace my M as I need rear seats.

I like it, but I wish I'd bought a cabrio instead of the coupe. The ride isn't as good as you'd imagine though and servicing/consumables are expensive.

Oh, and it sounds awesome! I think I'm going to miss it, have I done the right thing?!

I haven't been fortunate enough to own both an M coupe and Roadster...but having test driven a few M Coupes(in a spirited fashion/much to the annoyance of said salesmen, lol), I can say the faster steering rack its got (M3 RACK IN ROADSTER, FASTER M3 CSL RACK IN Coupe), coupled with the Extra weight of the M COUPE (over the M Roadster), I don't think the faster rack is very noticeable/slightly if anything. Both are EXCELLENT cars to drive on a good twisty road, etc. and while the Coupe does look very nice, the Roadster looks just as good. but in a different way, and looks even better when it has its roof down/again, just my op/...and you get such great enjoyment hearing the engine sing away to you when blasting along in the dry weather, roof down :D

Great write up Inkey$

I've been to cast my nose over an ///MC today at a garage near to me, Carbon Black with Imola Leather and CSL's, as always it depends which side of the bed I wake up on, but I'm pretty sure I'll get an ///MC one day :driving:

Personally, I don't really care if the coupe is a fractionally better car to drive - if I buy a car with a fixed roof it'll be able to seat at least 4 people, if I'm going to live with the restriction of only having 2 seats in a car, I want to be able to have the top down to balance the equation....

I would want a purpose built coupe, like the M4, not a cheaper afterthought to an existing model with a cyst stuck on the back

The coupe was actually designed along side the roadster right from the start. It has twice the torsional rigidity of the roadster which mean it's more of drivers car and less of a posers chariot. :fuelfire:

Thats not very nice... saying coupe owners have cyst's stuck on their backs..... I think BMW were quite smart making the coupe.... for the less attractive Z owner to be able to hide themselves :fuelfire:

I do like the lines of the coupe... But nearly every time I drive my roadster the top is down changing the dynamics of the trip I'm taking... Even in the rain lol

Some like the roof off some don't. Let's not have pages of boring Coupe v Roadster crap again.
Well said OG

It's purely personal preference & it's great that they offer both versions.

Both me & my brother in law have V8 M3's his is a convertible & mines a Coupe...I think it's sacrilege to chop the roof off an M3 but he loves his to bits...it's each to their own.

Good thread this!!

I almost got a V8 m3 convertible, amazing car but my heart wanted a zed ever since losing one in a relationship breakdown some years ago.

Okay, so I really didn't want to start a standard issue coupe vs roadster campaign so lets put an end to that right now! As has been said its horses for courses and I think my preference after experiencing both is a horse named FiftyOnePercentCoupe (2/1).

Excellent read and I couldn't agree more. I test drove a m135i the other day and whilst it was quick and comfy and had more seats it didn't make me smile as much as pulling away in the z4m. Beautiful

This sounds much like a friend I knew in my very late teens... He started dating this chic, then dumped her for another... then went back to the first only to dump her again a few months later for the second. Became more than just a little joke as ended up continuing back & forth for years...

I can only deduce he kept finding the grass the other side of the hill was always that bit greener ... but in my opinion Inkey$, that Bronze Grass looked awesome in my rear mirrors as the sun was setting

 It did look good didn't it ;)

So now we've got an Alpina to M post, and an MC to MR post. What's next? Actually, do we have a Coupe to Cayman post? :?

There's a drop dead gorgeous Coupe on an '08 plate moved in near me, I've not met the owner yet but he'll get pointed to the forum when I do. I have to say, it looks more purposeful, but I really wanted to stick with a convertible.

Interesting review Inkey - pity its descended into the usual mine is better than yours debate( not of your making)

The thing is each and every one of us drive in different driving environments and expect different things from our Zeds. I think if I lived close to a circuit or an autobahn the coupe would be on the drive , as it is I live close to some brilliant touring roads which in my opinion are best experienced in a roadster. The teally sad thing is I don't see BMW making a replacement for either coupe or roadster M anytime soon - so we are all destined for a Boxter S vs Cayman S debate in the decade to come.
