MC on PH Auction

of course it’s not glass’ guide Pondrew but there is a lot of “opinion” and I am just expressing the thought that I have noticed a lot of “talking down” here and elsewhere. I don’t care really as I didn’t buy my car here and won’t sell it here either. As you say it’s just talk; the market determines the level and these change over time. That was the point I was trying to make. Ironically, the price obtained by the car is probably a little high though (despite my points earlier and above) but let’s hope the buyer is happy with it and becomes a forum member. And we can tell him that he paid over the odds 🤪

I own a cheap high miler E86. If prices stay the same I can sell, make a small loss, then use the money received plus £6k to buy one on 70-80k in slightly better condition than mine.

Fixed that for you. “One of the best around” will cost you 14-15k.

I did that on another forum, posted a comment about them being "the most stupid person in Scotland" and the buyer joined the forum and saw the post. They were quite good about it, actually! It was a bit awkward though. I still maintain they were very stupid. They paid around £15k over market value (from a BM dealership) just because the car had very low mileage. It wasn't anything special apart from the mega low mileage.

But I thought you were obsessed with low mileage?

I met someone a couple of years ago who had bought a very low mileage 3.0i at what seemed a high price, but he thought he had bagged a barely used car for less than half what it cost new - so I suppose it depends on your POV!

Wasn't that low, about 50k iirc and yes, as usual I help both of us make an @rse of ourselves on the thread

I am! But not enough to pay exponentially higher prices than a higher mileage example. I pay more for low mileage cars, yes. But I don't pay double! I have a percentage that I stick to.
I would also expect the cars discussed on this thread to be complete unicorns for the prices asked; ie low owners (one or two), fully documented complete service history (not once every 10 years cos the mileage is low) with all the paperwork from new and for it to be in showroom condition inside and out. :)

Fair. Ish.

On the other hand there's an argument that "one of the best around" is a £10k 70k miler... whereas for 14-15k you aren't getting "one of the best around", you're getting "the best of the best".

Semantics!

Does a McLaren even fit on the roads in Devon? :poke:

They do, but I gather you need your son sat in the passenger seat adjusting the ride height as you go. :driving:
