Folks,

When I purchased my Z4 a few weeks ago it was interesting hearing from forum members who had previously owned the little Mazda MX5.

A few years back I was fortunate to own the silver coloured MK 2.5 2 litre Sport you see below.

I joined the local owners club, & we had many a 'hoon' across the north of England.

I was also fortunate to tick off a 'Bucket List' entry, which was to drive an open top car in the South of France.

I remember when I was looking for a Roadster back in 2008 it was either an MX5 or the Z3. Looked at the MX5 and just couldn't see what all the fuss was about and really wanted to like them, especially as I'd had a Mazda 323 for 20 years which was 100% reliable. I looked at the Z3 and loved it straight away so Z3 it was and still have it. I often wandered if I'd gone for the MX5 if I would have liked it as much.

The new MX5 due out to me looks miles better and may look at one of these as future Z3 replacement.

Great sports car and brilliant fun in Northumberland on the back lanes. Our Mk2 was 100% reliable and we had it 6 years until buying our first Zed. Always put a smile on my face and Steph liked it so much we kept the registration and transferred it to our subsequent Zeds.

At our favourite Wentworth Café at Hexham - they are both British Racing Green. . .



Hartside as often as possible - sometimes with the two Border terriers on board as well. . .you can just see them sat on the back shelf (one on Steph's knee and one sat between the seats when we were on the road.

I've had a new MX-5 for a couple of months now. In 50 years driving never owned or even driven a Japanese built car. Very pleased with it especially the build quality.

Some great pics there folks.. how desirable has the MK1 become now as a collectors classic :thumbsup:

That's what I liked about the car...100% reliability, & a smile on your face, even though they were not a particularly fast car :D
 
I've had two, a mk2 1.8iS which unfortunately got written off by someone hitting it, not a huge amount of damage but high repair cost, not too bad though as I kept it as salvage and made some profit overall. Used that to then buy a mk1 eunos s-limited with the mines ECU. That was a great example which again made me a nice bit of profit, especially with selling the hardtop. I do sometimes wish I still had it though.



 
Will be interested to see the new mx5. IF it's simple and comfortable it would be tempting... Also provided I by then own the obligatory hair salon.

Currently have a Mk2 10th anniversary. It's rather rusty around the arches and sills. Cheap to buy and will cost a fair bit of my time to fix it up but it's worth it as it's a great little car to drive. It would also be a shame to scrap something that is otherwise so mechanically sound.

My wife had 2 MX5s before we had the kids. I never appreciated them at the time. They are a unique driving experience as they are not really quick cars but they can be driven quickly, flatter the most modestly skilled driver and therefor are very rewarding. They are very easy to live with as well.

Titanium Grey with a Walnut Coloured Interior - this is where my love for silver-grey exterior - brown/red interior sports cars started, member of the MX-5 scotland owners club and went on many a weekend drive . it was my sole car for the first year i had it - bought as a demo . Part ex'd it for an Audi A4 after 2 years -> the Audi was nice but always missed the MX-5.

Here's mine... 2003 Nevada. Brilliant car. As others have said not overly endowed with power, but every last bit was exploitable. Turned every journey into an adventure and I loved it for all of the 3 years I kept it. Hopefully someone still is cherishing it somewhere...

Great looking car Z4, I agree with you & the other posters entirely...an event every time you drove it. :thumbsup:

My Sport was on an 03 plate, & only 28,000 when I got rid, regretted it to this day.

Hmm, never been so insecure I've needed to think the Zed is butch(er) - but then again if that's important to you I can quite understand. . . . :P
