Mayday! Did I do something wrong?

Had a few codes pop up last week for the lean bank 1 and 2 and also the thermostat heater. Decided to go through and replace a bunch of stuff this weekend. Maf, valve cover gasket, eccentric sensor, valvetronic motor, water pump, t stat, hoses, oil filter housing / heat exchanger seals, belt and tensioner.

Now I have a pending p1030, so something is wrong with the valvetronic. The car was running pretty good on the test drive but then lost all power, feels like it has 50hp. Limp mode maybe? This is a 2008 Z4C 3.0si with the auto box. Everything looks right so bot sure what could be wrong. Also the p0597 code is back but no SEL is on, might still be the previous code.

Tried driving again, ran great for a bit then went to no power. Also makes an odd intake type noise when bliping the throttle. Turned car off and back on to full power but only to got part again. Only idles at 500rpm in gear and very choppy in reverse.

Hmmmm... sounds like valvetronic related. Did you fit oem parts or aftermarket? First thing I would do is a Valvetronic reset in INPA...here

If that doesn’t fix it, disconnect maf then take it for a run. If no change, reconnect again and disconnect the eccentric shaft sensor. The car will throw a code but will substitute a set of default values which could help narrow things down.

Thanks for the reply. It was the new valvetronic motor, changed back to the old oem motor and the problem is gone. Note to self, use oem parts. Still bought a decent one from Ecs Tuning but it was Bmw.

Wasn't that same original OEM part fitted when the error originally arose?

No I changed it to an aftermarket part which was the one with the issue. I was doing the vcg, all the seals going to that, and eccentric sensor, so I figured might as well do the motor. Car is still working fine, defective aftermarket part was the issue.
