Always thought they were a bit nutty but starting to see their point after dealing with the Council this morning.
My ex-wife (with whom I'm on perfectly civilised terms) submitted my youngest daughter's school admission paperwork and forget to take a copy for me. I contacted the council admissions department and supplied my name and address, my daughter's name, address and date of birth and my ex-wife's name and address and asked for a copy of the application and to be copied on any correspondence as my ex is away next week and we are expecting to hear something. The request was copied to my ex-wife.
The council have come back and said they will not release any information to do with MY daughter until they can verify that the mother has given explciit permission for me to receive it AND they require me to prove I am the girl's father.
Which, as well as being discriminatory (probably) also makes it impossible for me to meet my legal obligations under Section 3-1 of the Children Act.
I am tempted to ask them if they require all single mothers to prove maternity.
So now I have an urge to dress like Spiderman and camp out on the council roof!
Only the Zed gets taxed in a couple days so I don't want to get arrested before then!
