MaXpeeding RODS budget coilovers

I bought these last week as a bit of fun and because my project car needed a front suspension refresh anyway. Unfortunately they do not fit the e85/e86 caveat emptor. Basically the base of the strut, which I assume is designed to fit into the knuckle joint is 57mm; whereas the OEM strut, which is designed to fit through the knuckle joint is 47mm stepping up to 52mm.

That is a shame because all the parts in this kit seem well made for the price, have loads of adjustment and look the business.

I’m offering them for what I paid which is £150, but no reasonable offer refused if you can make use of them. Cosmetically they have a few dings but I don’t think they’ve ever been fitted.

Bit of a weird place to try and sell them if they don't fit the main car on here. Bung them on ebay and I'm sure you will get roughly what you paid as an auction.

I will. I’m about to have a clearout. It’s best to wait for an offer on seller fees before listing everything on the Bay.

Calling [ref]Jollygiant[/ref].
As a member who has (or had) these fitted to their car, would it be possible to get a picture of the front struts where they slot into the kingpins? Or even better, the measurement across the base of the strut. If mine are the same, then I can be more confident that they will actually fit a Z4.

Is there any part numbers or markings on them for you to ask maxspeeding for clarification to what car they are actually for?

Not that I recall, but it was a while ago since I had them out. They matched the picture on the Maxpeedingrods website for e85/e86 exactly though

They could just use the same pics for all BMW from around those years.
Worth contacting them with details measurements etc if they don’t have numbers. I’m sure they will know what the are for

I'll try and take some pics tomorrow, but they do look basically the same as the ones pictured but have an adjuster on the top with I think it was 32 clicks of adjustment.

I was looking at some other stuff today and found this photo from [ref]Jollygiant[/ref], showing the strut fitted.
It looks as though they just don't poke through the bottom.
As long as they have the two lugs that sit either side of the clamping bolt to stop the strut pulling out they should be fine.
[ref]Zedebee[/ref], I just read your note and it seems there is a 5mm difference. Would the knuckle open enough for that?

Good man Martin
I’m scrubbing up a pair of knuckles at the moment, so I might get those coilovers out and see if they will go in.

To be honest though, I’ve got new Sachs on both cars so I’m unlikely to ever fit these. If anyone wants to have a play with them, I’ll consider any offers.

I’d think the question will be even if you can cram them into the knuckles, will the bolt be long enough?
