Maximum Speed of the E89 BMW Z4 35is

I have no doubt many others would made this enquiry during the passage of time, but I am curious to learn the potential top speed of the E89 BMW Z4 35is were it not fitted with a speed limiting device set at one hundred and fifty smiles per hour

It’s a complex issue..I assume roof up for less drag…probably around 172mph-175mph ..given how the power of the stock 35is starts to decline past 5,500 rpm it will be very sensitive to gradient and wind..

B21, Thank you for your courtesy in responding which was much appreciated. I am thinking that your assessment is likely to be correct albeit that it is most unlikely that I shall make any endeavour to take the machine to its maximum speed.

Whilst I have yet to drive the new-to-me motor car but was able to gauge from the passenger seat that it is a motor car that has immense power; I have not previously owned a machine with a six cylinder engine and am very much looking forward to enjoying the experience.

I believe your Atacama Yellow 35is is very similar to the Ferrari Giallo Fly yellow and I have no doubt it looks quite splendid in that colour. I have noticed of late that there is a renaiscence in Yellow Cars which is quite excellent for the reason that it would be nice to see more cars painted in prime colours rather than the present preponderence of myriad shades of silver, grey and black with which the overwhelming majority of cars are painted. This apart, yellow is also a very safe colour for the reason that it makes a car hugely visible as is the case with white.

I don't have much opportunity to drive over 100mph here in the US.
I owned a 2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack for 4 years and never took it over 110 mph. Yes, I could have, but I've found that the world goes by too fast at those speeds.
100mph is my personal top speed, with some buffer to allow short bursts over (slightly).
0-60 is my main benchmark as I oftentimes find myself accelerating from a stop. Rarely do I care about a car's 40-100 time or antying like that.

Not a 35is but tuned 35i, I had a bit of too much fun and was able to take it to 125mph in the bay until my wife gave me that look. It was able to get there way quicker than I expected. Quite a beast.

That’s easily done, and trust me, I know that look 😂

Well an unrestricted B3 Alpina E92 has an official top speed of 178mph. It has the same N54 engine and is probably around the same weight as a lardy E89 35is.
But the Alpina has slightly more power (360bhp and 500nm) and a 6 speed slush box.

You could calculate the theoretical top speed from the revs per mph in 7th (or 6th), but that is just a calculation and means nothing.

All immaterial anyway. The UK isn't big enough to get to anywhere near those sort of speeds, even if you had the 'minerals'.

I always stick to published speed limits at all times…

Now that's a beautiful view, we don't have those here...roads with no potholes.
We have a very odd relationship with potholes here..

I live in an area of commercial logging…the 42 tonne lorries rapidly cut the road to bits, creating the mother of potholes…then…they completely resurface the roads and then it’s like a racetrack…

This bit of road is used by all the UK car magazines for their back to back road tests and phot shoots..

You have a lot more opportunity than here in the UK. We don't have hundreds of miles of deserted, straight roads anywhere.
Indeed. However, I live in a rather populated area. While I can get up to 150mph in some places, it's not at all safe. If I lived in the mid-west where you have 2 miles of visibility on a flat piece of land, I would drive like that more often.

Getting up to 100mph is rather easy and sustainable. I have a feature on my RADAR detector enabled which annoyingly beeps at me every second that I'm over 90 mph. It helps keep me in check.
