Max Throttle / rpm?

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can advise me on the following re: Z4M:

I was trying to do abit of testing with the car and when I tried to "max out" the rev counter I realise I am not able to rev the car at more than 6,000 rpm. Once it reached 6,000 the throttle seems to cut off and the rev indicator will bounce between 5,700 - 6,000 rpm - ie. the car's throttle has "maxed out". Note the car was stationary - gear in neutral.

Has anyone tried revving your car? Do you have the same problem as me? Is this normal?

Thank you very much for your time.

There's an urban myth the cars are limited before the 2,000KM M service (remap during service) - In neutral, the cars have a shorter redline - when you think of this, it makes sense e.g. far easier to extend the engine when not under load.

The rev limiter is set to about 6000rpm whilst the car is stationary, it will be fine whilst you are driving. There is a way to disable it in order to use the cars on a rolling road.

Sneaky suspicious that this is the case but the time I thought about it I am no longer with the car...

Thanks a lot guys.

Not a complete myth, the cars are shipped from the factory with a rev limiter at 5500 rpm to keep the deliverers from having too much fun. This is supposed to be removed by the dealer upon receipt or purchase of the car. Just how do I know this,,,, they "forgot" to remove mine when I purchased, but really did not notice, since you are not supposed to exceed 5000 rpm until after the 1,200 mile break-in period. A quick 20 minute visit to the dealer removed the limiter and 8k rpm was seen shortly thereafter :)
