Mattress Recommendation

I go to IKEA and buy a new one every few years and bin the old one , I don't get the guarantee thing , if you sleep naked it's like wearing your jeans for 8 years and only ever shaking them clean !

Dont you put sheets on your bed and wash them?

Trust me, I used to "demo" aka sell Kirby cleaners back in 88-89, one of the best tactics we used to clinch the sale was going upstairs and vacuuming their mattress THROUGH the sheet, with a small black cloth attached instead of the normal cleaners bag.

We would then go back downstairs and talk about dust mites and dead skin cells, and how they wouldn't want them in their home etc, and after getting agreement/commitment, we would pull the cloth from the Kirby and open it out on the floor in front of them.. The results were always dramatic..

Seeing a PILE of dead skin flakes, visibly crawling with dust mites (I kid you not) was a powerful closing tool. I actually had a couple of women run out of the room to throw up, but not before ordering their husband's to "get it bought"

In fact, I remember one woman insisting that she would buy my demo kit from me there and then, at full retail of £899, as long as I left it with them so they could vacuum the mattress, as she wouldn't sleep on it until it had been done.. I was more than happy to oblige, as we'd normally discount the demo kit to around £450 and still take it away for a polish and clean before returning to deliver it.

Strange how some things stick in your mind, I still even remember her name and address, nearly 30 years later, prob due to the fact that I made around £400 commission from that sale alone at aged 17/18

My folks had a Kirby back in 88 - brilliant machine for the time. Was like a workout using it!

Ahh , the Kirby , I know how dirty you are tactic :lol:
A couple of mates used to do that job and it usually worked when they did the , your live in a dirty house routine , they did quite well too .

Just bought a memory foam mattress from Carpetright last month and although it was top of the range I didn't like it as when it was delivered it was a lot firmer than the one tried in the shop. It apparently takes ages to get anywhere close to the firmness it should be. Fortunately they have a return policy that if after a month or so if you don't like the one you purchased they will change it and only charge the re delivery costs of £39. We have just changed our memory foam one today for a Sealy mattress which is sprung and has a gel top so we get best of both worlds. Would recommend you purchase from a supplier that has a similar return policy.

What puts me off memory foam is we had a topper on the bed and after a while it went a manky grey/brown colour as it aged so I dread to think what a matress would look like after a few years, glad we went with a pocket sprung mattress now, nice and bouncy and luckily doesn't squeak :?

Squeaking is not the problem, it's not squeaking for long enough
