Mass errors on dashboard

Hi everyone.

Was undertaking a bit of an upgrade to my sound system today, installing the power box amp to my car (basic sound system) ahead of fitting some speakers that are on the way. Fitted it fine, tested it all went well, then disconnected and threaded the cables through the back of the passenger footwell bit where the fuse box sits.

Unfortunately when then trying to start it up following this was met with a Christmas tree of error codes on the dashboard, and it now appears the car is receiving a charge and then turning off and back on again (every second or so). Means that using the code reader is redundant as it’s currently firing off pretty much every single code.

Fortunately after putting the car on a trickle charge I was able to get the roof back up before it rained, I’ve also tried to reset the system by taking the charger off and disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes but no joy in fixing the issues.

My assumption here is that the FRM has failed? Wanted to check in on here first to see if there was anything else I might’ve knocked/loosened that would be causing this, or anything else that I could try to fix it, before sending it off.

FRM failures are common on E89s and will eventually occur on every E89....they are varied in their manifestations..yours seem hard core..£50 fixes it..see ebay chaps

Thanks B21, it was repairs today and it’s coming back tomorrow.

Both the repair shop and other advice on here state it’s a good idea to disconnect the battery before reconnecting the repaired unit, how can I open the boot to do so?

Due to the nature of the issues I’m having. The electric locking etc is no longer working, can get the engine on but that’s it now.

I’m assuming I’m just going to have to risk putting it in with the battery connected as I’ll have no other option?

There’s a pin trick off the fuse box or decent code readers have a boot release function…I think it’s pin 12..

Otherwise you just have to risk it…
