Maserati 3200GT

Personally, no, not for me
Looks like two cars stuck together

Nope, not for me - front view reminds me of "that" ford scorpio...

Looks alright from the rear though, so you'd need to reverse everywhere :)

Good car...

Cannot buy any parts for them though.... and the electrics are made of 1950's bell wire and rust...

They suffer from crank play, especially in manual guise....£800 rebuild iirc..

I love em,and the 4200 but i wouldnt own one...

put a thread up about these a couple of months ago as I was contemplating one. After a test drive I was pretty torn. I'd only go for one in grandsport/cambiocorsa guise, better interior, better ride, better gearbox. that 430 v8 sounds great, but I just can't figure out if the looks are aging well. In the wrong colour and angle they don't quite sell themselves to me. the 3200 rear boomerang end looks much better imho and I'd retrofit it if I went for one. They look slightly too narrow and tall. if they sat a little lower and wider They would be perfect

They're the same money as the m6 here which was the other shortlisted, but neither felt 'special' compared the the Z4M to be honest. More shouty perhaps but there was a lot I missed, the M^ was too big and the cambio felt nimble without feeling truly lively. after I drove a 360, so that's where my money will be going in a few months instead considering the running costs won't be particularly much more

Love the looks. Interior is to die for apart from the clock. and those boomerang lights. 8) Not looked for several years but you could pick these up for 10k when they where a lot younger, than they are now. The engine is a spiky turbo laggy ball of fire, waiting to threw you through the nearest hedge. Plus running cost are Ferrari territory, if your doing it right. You have been warned

I am smitten by them - my head says it's all wrong gonna cost a mortgage to maintain .....

But they sound fab they look great and there are so few around they are so exclusive....

Oh the pain !!!

I can't understand the attraction personally. The whole shape of the car looks like an after thought to me. Coupled with the extortionate running costs and average performance, it's not a car that I have ever desired.

Everyone to their own and all that.

H.

I understand that the later 4200 is the more reliable one to go for, even though you forsake those wonderful rear lights.

Both are comparatively cheap to buy (for a supercar) though neither will be cheap to run (properly)

A local PH member runs a beautiful 4200.

Recons it cost a arm and a leg to run. I love the brand the spyder was very high on the list when I bough my Z4 and was actually cheaper to buy an early model, at the time. But when I researched the running cost and drove the Zed it was obvious which one I had to buy. :D :driving:

Love em from a far is my advise. Unless you have much paper to burn.

Car Magazine did a short piece comparing them against the 997 (gen II before we talk about engines getting lunched) ..... Month 6 of this long term test report ..... it didn' t do well.

I have to say the thought of a Maserati key ring does have a certain appeal

i think that is the problem, they have supercar running costs but they just aren't quite a supercar. they sit in a bit of a strange place in the market imo between prestigeous cruiser and itallian stallian. in a strange way they are in a league of their own, I can't describe it. Not stunning enough to be compared to say the 550 etc either which is another car Ive been in love with sonce day 1

Thanks everyone. I think I've been successfully put off with all the Ford Scorpio/electrics/running cost talk
It always been about the boomerang lights and sound for me. Shortsighted I know, but I'm a creative director and these things matter more than efficiency, reliability and classic good looks.

Time to save for that Gransturismo instead

Bit of a duffer imo, dreadful reliability, expensive to run, I think people are swayed by the name and the noise, a good car needs to be more than that though.
