You can get a wire brush that goes in a drill chuck
Good for cleaning them up, no need to remove them
The best way would be soda/sand blasted and powdercoatedIt means it gets ALL the rust/dust off and the finish has a solid base to attach itself - this is especially important if you have old callipers as the pad seats within the carrier can gum up causing the pad to mis-align and reduce braking efficiency.

You can send them offI don't have the kit either. It also gives a good chance to refurb the callipers on their return (new seals etc)

I no I missed a little bit round the back when I was painting mine as it is awkward to get around with a brush. And need to paint one more so might as well do it while ive got the car jacked.
