Marmite Insurance

So today I thought i'd do a little side post about some of the awesome time I have had getting quotes for my insurance for the marmite machine. Now, being a 23 year old 'jack the lad' with a fully clean license 1 years NCB and only 1 claim in the last 5 years 'driver not at fault - all losses covered from other side' I thought... hell this won't be so bad! So I began to ring around local insurance companies, getting comparison quotes and quickly realising... oohhhh crap.

So one particular insurance company had a lovely fellow who was so in tune with the automotive industry he left me with no option but to laugh my ass off at what we actually got round to quoting. The first thing to mention was the wider alloys / tyres, 19" diameter, Ok not a problem sir let me add that for you... so far so good, I then proceeded to declare my exhaust system, again not a problem, front bumper got a little more difficult as he kept asking me if this front bumper was an 'optional extra' and about 30 times I told him it was an import from Germany... Ok and then things got worse... I attempted and I use that term very loosely to describe exactly what i was doing to the arches and there is absolutely no classification for what I am doing, in fact it can't be labeled as a bodykit as it has no shelf value because it has been made from scratch... in fact the closest thing they had in their big book of mods was 'Flared arches' .... so yes I now have 'flared arches' on a policy, not sure if that would stand up in court... lets not even touch the topic of wide track suspension, wheel spacers and the coilovers... oh dear GOD....

So all in all I will be paying about £2450 for my annual premium! unless I can find something cheaper by August 20th... I have tried adrian flux and all these 'modified' specialists but frankly when you are under that magical age of 25... you are GOING to crash and GOING to cost them a lot of money... :fuelfire:

Anyway... RANT OVER. :)

It was never going to be cheap young man! Still its only money and you have got a new job and probably a pay rise

Thats insane. My first quote on my ///M at 23 with 2ync 3 points was £1060 then at 24 it reduced to £840... With all my modifications obv no where near as yours but still.

Now 25 looking for insurance for November looks like it will be about £650-700.

My insurance last year at 25 was £420 and I've had an accident in the last 5 years....

I don't think we can really judge our insurance against what Brad's will need to be.

Hope you manage to find something a little cheaper Brad, but given the complete overhaul of your car you need to make sure you are covered rather than just going for the cheapest.

I believe it is the customer's obligation to advise of all modifications (if asked), but I may be wrong.

I would have thought you would be better sacking off any mainstream insurance companies and seeing if there are any independent specialist insurance broker about.

£199pa 40 years ncb, For a E89 3lt

agree that they do quite silly figures for younger drivers
They're guilty until proved innocent.

This. And also limit the mileage, unless you'll be driving it daily ?

.....also insure for social/domestic only, commuting adds cost. Jeez I can remember my first 2 litre Rover at 19 years age and no ncb cost me only £85 to insure!

My insurance (as I was asked numerous times by people on the lakes meet 8) ) Is £1450 as standard (well, with 18" wheels declared).

Ouch Brad (but was expected).

I'd definitely try putting others on the policy

Don't forget to tell them of the paint job under the bonnet

Your alive RJS not heard from you in a while!!

Sorry mate, my bad. Lot going on.

Clutch is cream crackered and no one will touch it due to the exhaust turning it's bolts into solid corroded metal.

Thoroughly pissed off with the car at the moment so I've avoided all elements. Give me a week or two and I'll be back with enthusiasm and on my way to you with brakes and lines. Promise.
