Map update Europe 2022-2

Downloads using download manager, verifies using download manager. (All onto removable storage) Once verified and I click save, then I get an error.
Okay, potentially try to download to local disk then when the Download manager ask where to save map, then select the usb stick.

Ok, found the problem. You can't download the update directly to your removable storage. You need to download it to a temporary folder and once validated move it to the removable storage.
Update now complete.

I don’t think the system is without its flaws

I tried the download onto a USB stick and it failed (E89) The Dealer struggled to do an update on his kit on both my E89 and the 335 - both cars had to have two off day long visits.

I was a while ago now - buy from my memory, I used the Download Manager then moved it to a newly formatted USB stick.

Great that it works okay now.

What size memory stick do you need for this one?
32GB should be okay but it's on the limit. I got a 64GB one. If you are going to buy one, then buy 64GB in case future update exceeds 32GB. Also, 64GB isn't too much more than 32GB these days.

Updated mine without hitch.
Locally I have an issue with the mapping though. When I am trying to come home from the north, Sat Nav now tries to send me across a local hotel car park and on to a cul de sac. This would be an illegal maneuver however you can't even attempt it as the hotel has a double decker bus parked across the back exit from the car park. :D
I contacted BMW who helpfully sent my email onto someone. However, my email didn't give specific details about where the mapping is wrong.
Not sure how that will work out .

I believe the map is outsourced so they just forward your email to them without even look into what information is missing for the issue you report.

With these map updates is there a charge, or are they free.??

My car is three years old, and bought second hand...From a dealer..

You have to pay after 3 years. It’s an annual fee.

Tbh I use Waze anyway, but I always want the latest maps on my car for some reason.

Waze is ok and we all tend to have a phone with us most of the time these days.
With that in mind, what is the general consensus for the best phone holder?

I currently use an iPhone Pro Max but its in a leather phone case and I cannot be chewed to remove it before putting it in a holder. I was going towards a CD slot holder and think in Landscape.

I wanted to use it as a backup sat Nav ie using a phone based system when minor roads change and the car system is out of date.

So a dashboard holder would be ideal.

Just out of curiosity. Why do you need a holder with wireless CarPlay?

So I can see the map on the screen as well as hearing the instructions.

For phone use only I’m quite happy to stuff it down the side of the seat or in the tunnel net,
