I ended up buying a 3.0si Coupé with manual aircon

To update this and answer the original question in case people are looking to do this.

It can't be done by just swapping to an auto climate control unit as there are communication errors.

Especially annoying when you Google search something and there is very limited results that are even relevant except one that asks exactly the same question. With glee you click the link only to find disappointment as there are no answers/responses
