Manual door and trunk lock basic question

2004 E85 that I have had for a month. One of the issues that I am working is the central locking system that is misbehaving.

But that is not my question. There is a wealth of information available by search and I would like to take the opportunity to thank those who have posted in the past and those who have helped them, and now me, work the problem/s.

My question is: Am I correct that not matter what the electron Gods do, I will always be able to unlock the driver's side door and the trunk using the mechanical key in the mechanical lock? I assumed that it worked like that, and it ought to, but a few comments seem to imply that they were locked out of the car.

Thanks.

If the locks are working as they should, then yes, you can open with the key. Two exceptions come in mind. First, as these cars are aging, the older mechanical Gods may be in anger if they haven’t received sacrificial oil in the locks. Second, learn a habit to not keep the key in coat pockets - as documented in some threads, placing the key in the trunk is a tricky situation.

Thanks for the reply. The locks work well, have been lubricated and we have two keys. My paranoia demon is back in its cage.
