I think my manifold is blowing and id like to try and find out where.

Is there a trick in seeing where it is blowing from? I havent got access to a lift ramp.

Common N46 issue. Will be where the pipes all meet up, below the steering column joint
i take the whole lot needs to come off and welded up? The manifold is stainless i think and the cats are steel?
Is it diy doable, as’ive got a mate that is a welder…

I take it from these photos this is a fairly common thing….can the repair be done whilst on the car? And would jb weld paste help or hinder cheers

I had the same problem on mine, but my mechanic wasn't to keen on welding it in place, turns out it was blowing in several places and it was too awkward a job. Ended up buying a second hand manifold off of ebay for £140, which came off a car with less than 30k on the clock. I am going to have the original one welded up and have as a spare.

ok good shout, did you take the manifold off or was it your mechanic?

All done by BMW specialist. They ended up replacing all four sensors on exhaust too. I didn't have the time to start stripping the car on the drive as I was working too many hours last year.

Have you read this?
