I won't lie, I have read the "use the search function" comments before and as a 'lifer' understand but it doesn't make the community feel as warm as we all know it is.
Especially to a newbie and the odd comment could stop someone from pursuing the use of the forum. Ive had the odd comment but also given plenty so works both ways.
But it is a forum, especially when it comes to the e85-86 pretty much every possible mod has been done to death and if you are a lifer and had the car a long time and spend a good amount of time on the forum it can seem like the same threads come up over and over. But that is the point of the forum. Fact. Opinion is King.
When it comes to the E89 it is pretty much the most unmodified BMW around and there are barely any threads of true modification unlike the E85/6 so the more the better IMO.
Also you have to remember that so many threads get brought up they get buried and the search facility isn't the easiest to use and advice is usually easier than searching and also allows members to communicate and create friendships etc and it usually end up going off at brilliant tangents by some incredibly knowledgable people. So I don't really mind.
But if you think back when you first arrived, I didn't know a lot about the Z at all, the only way a lot of us learned was by reading these recurring threads. I think the lifers can be a bit like that, In the last 2 years the forum has become a lot more social because of the lack of change with the Z4 and I enjoy that as much as the cars.
But I suppose especially with newbies its a good idea to be lenient and also you have to remember that although your writing something that may seem tame to you it may not to others and can be construed to feel aggressive, similar with most modern communication.
Im the first to admit it, my English is poor and struggle with dyslexia. I read over some of mine posts weeks later and think... s**t... didn't mean it to sound like that..
I remember when I had been here about 6 months and someone absolutely tore me a new one because of my English and it started a huge thread about forum etiquette. The guys not a bad bloke and a great contributor but sometimes people have bad days and things are taken the wrong way...
But what I'm trying to say is that its a great place and there are some brilliant people on here and lets try and remember that
