Maniac missing ?

I always enjoyed his threads on the cars he thought about replacing his Zed with and he always gave lots of good information on them.

F*ck me, I just read the post. Few posters on there hadnt taken their happy pills that day clearly.
Come back Maniac. Seriously dont let a few pissy replies get you down man

(Ironically I should have used the search function properly to find the actual post).

I used the search to find it as well. Sometimes some of the post I have seen have been a little demeaning from some senior members but to be honest I am a newbie and I have respect for those who have been around for a long time. It must be frustrating to see the same old posts over and over again when you have been around for a while I often did try the search facility after nobody had replied within 30 seconds :D

I find this forum great and full of interesting stuff. I even enjoy reading the idiot posts for a bit of light relief

I'm guessing it was this one,

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=61549&hilit=angel+eyes&start=15

But I don't remember it going on like that lol :o

Or indeed it was locked :(

It was a clash of handbags for sure , no idea why Gary should fly the nest over it , he did offer a wealth of knowledge but appears not everyone appreciated his delivery

I brought up the issue of telling people to 'use the search' in this thread forum etiquette some time ago. It seems peoples opinions vary on the subject but I still stand by what I said in that post.

I,m with you mate , someone asks a question & i think can help , i do , if i can,t ? i don,t :|
Above all it,s a forum which is a platform to exchange information & views so ultimately the reason we all came or stay is to do just that ,
At times there will be clashes but in comparison to other similar sites few & far between , hopefully Maniac will shrug off the fall & get back on the bike

I won't lie, I have read the "use the search function" comments before and as a 'lifer' understand but it doesn't make the community feel as warm as we all know it is.

Especially to a newbie and the odd comment could stop someone from pursuing the use of the forum. Ive had the odd comment but also given plenty so works both ways.

But it is a forum, especially when it comes to the e85-86 pretty much every possible mod has been done to death and if you are a lifer and had the car a long time and spend a good amount of time on the forum it can seem like the same threads come up over and over. But that is the point of the forum. Fact. Opinion is King.

When it comes to the E89 it is pretty much the most unmodified BMW around and there are barely any threads of true modification unlike the E85/6 so the more the better IMO.

Also you have to remember that so many threads get brought up they get buried and the search facility isn't the easiest to use and advice is usually easier than searching and also allows members to communicate and create friendships etc and it usually end up going off at brilliant tangents by some incredibly knowledgable people. So I don't really mind.

But if you think back when you first arrived, I didn't know a lot about the Z at all, the only way a lot of us learned was by reading these recurring threads. I think the lifers can be a bit like that, In the last 2 years the forum has become a lot more social because of the lack of change with the Z4 and I enjoy that as much as the cars.

But I suppose especially with newbies its a good idea to be lenient and also you have to remember that although your writing something that may seem tame to you it may not to others and can be construed to feel aggressive, similar with most modern communication.

Im the first to admit it, my English is poor and struggle with dyslexia. I read over some of mine posts weeks later and think... s**t... didn't mean it to sound like that..

I remember when I had been here about 6 months and someone absolutely tore me a new one because of my English and it started a huge thread about forum etiquette. The guys not a bad bloke and a great contributor but sometimes people have bad days and things are taken the wrong way...

But what I'm trying to say is that its a great place and there are some brilliant people on here and lets try and remember that

Good points Tom. All of them except ... "Poor English" ? Your essays put a lot of us to shame!!! Haha.

The whole issue of searching occurs on all forums, on other forums which I used to use, the same remarks would be posted about it.

Bit of a shame all this.

Read the history on the other thread & while some of the points were valid... should have been communicated in a better way.

I had trouble with search function & using Photobucket when I first joined, WonderMike was very patient, please let's return to those days

Good point well made Stan.

Do you know what; Im not being funny but seriously - its a textbook forum response from a seasoned forum member. Happens the world over; somebody asks a question, somebody else says use the search. Its not a new phenomenon. Why break it down into its componant parts and analyse it?

Maybe its just tired, grouchy old me but who cares.

Interesting that a few of the protagonists in the angel eyes thread have not posted since.

Personally I didn't see anything wrong with Maniac's post - he has other posts that are far more deserving of a good slap...

The search function has been improved over the years and now handles 3 letter words too, and there is always the google option at the top too.

Successful searching
