Hi Guys,

Just got the keys to my new car, a 2003 Z4 Roadster 3.0 and I am absolutely loving it. :D
One question though....

Q: I have done a search around this across the forum, but can't seem to find a definitive answer - Is there an Ipod solution on the market that works with Carver and doesn't disable the use of the CD changer?

Been out driving every night since I got it, but haven't had chance to upload the pics from my camera as of yet. I know from looking at previous posts that you are a fan of pics on this forum, so in the meantime, here are the ones of it sitting on the forecourt at the BMW dealer...

Hi an welcome, nice looking car.

Think Aux input is your only option to retain CD changer, but have to ask why you would still need the changer connected anyway?
 
Very nice. Im also in manchester....

As for your query regarding ipod connection. I also have the carver system and still have the use of my CD changer.

i installed the AUX Lead from the main BMW dealer (about £40 i think) and the rear of my stereo system had a spare socket which i just plugged it into. The Aux mode simply comes up on the car stereo once its plugged in. I am a bit of a novice and it took no more than about 10 minutes once you have the vents out.

I would also recommend putting the headphone jack through the removable panel below the heater controls. when its in use all you see is the cable from your ipod, miles better than having to have the ashtray lid open like some installations.

If you need anythign else, just let me know. :thumbsup:

Just don't really want a feature of the car to be redundant. I also ue my phone as a SatNav so can't always use it for music. I also forgot to mention that use my Iphone 3G as an Ipod, so I'm not sure if this limits the interfaces I can use.

Your best bet would be somthing like dension gateway or Intravee IMO, they enable you to control the ipod through the MFSW if you have one else just through the stereo head unit. I had my car from new it came with a changer and I had no hesitation in disconnecting it. You just unplug it and leave in pleace as it's way to complicated to remove. If you need to reconnect at any point it wouldnt take long.

I also use my Iphone 3G as an ipod in the car, works fine for me. The quality is still really good. I have to agree with the CD changer, its not everyday i use the ipod and its still good to have it there working.

I also use my Iphone 3G as an ipod in the car, works fine for me. The quality is still really good. I have to agree with the CD changer, its not everyday i use the ipod and its still good to have it there working.

Sounds like a good option. Did you get the Aux direct from Williams BMW in Manchester?
Do you have any pics of what the aux looks like when installed?
 
Hi and welcome to the forum :D

There is a thread about the AUX-DIY in the howto section. basically just a lead which You can place where you want. The instructions suggest the glovebox. The factory options in the later cars (2007 onwards) housed it in the access panel underneath the air con controls. Some have routed it to the little compartment behind the handbrake....

Ive got mine to the cigarette lighter area ultimately anyhow...

I got mine from the Upper Brook Street dealership ? not sure if thats Williams or not, the one next to the ferrari/maserati dealership anyway. As for pictures, here you go:- (these are old & poor quality but you will get the idea)

i think the spare socket was in the bottom right hand corner from memory ?

i ended up getting a black (adjustable length lead) from the apple store which is thinner and far less obvious than this white thing.

Thanks for that. Yeh, that's the Williams dealer...I will give them a shout tomorrow and get myself one of those!
I take it I will need to get my hands on a power drill to feed it under the stereo like you have...

Yes, it doesnt take much effort to drill it though as its only thin plastic. Its very easy. You may want to check out some other posts on the vent removal, thats also easy, but for some reason can take a while to get right.
