Man, What a Difference!

From the start I have been battling warning lights of one kind or another, with the Check Engine light coming and going. Then when changing to oil a few weeks ago seemed to smooth everything out I was almost afraid to mess with it, but I just kept thinking if the oil was bad enough to mess with the Vano Solenoids they had to be pretty dirty too.

So last weekend, I picked up some new Orings, seals and decided to give them a cleaning. After removing the two solenoids I used a power supply to energize them (5VDC) then blew them out with a shop air compressor, replaced the seals and orings, and for sh%ts and giggles swapped the inlet and exhaust vano with each other.

Man, as soon as started her up I thought to myself (you never fix something that's not broken) lol. The idling was crap, but doing it gave me a different error code than I had seen before so now I knew the exhaust solenoid had been my problem all along.

My new solenoid arrived n the mail yesterday and I replaced the sticking part today, Then using my code reader I reset all of the setting which the ECU had changed just to keep the car running, and took her for a spin.

Its hard to believe the difference. All of my errors are gone, and she hit 80 as I passed my neighbor's driveway, maybe 300 feet. I was really impressed how she's running now and I can't wait to see how the gas mileage improves now.

Congrats on solving yer problem(s).
Feels good to do it yourself too !

Now I know who to PM when my Zed acts up.

Cheers and happy motoring

LOL yeah it's been a long road and a lot of reading, but your right it dose feel good to figure it out kinda on your own, could fill a whole page of thank you posts to people who have written about their problems and what they did to solve them, defiantly made it easier for me to find and fix mine.

Thanks everyone, yeah when I got the car there were a few problems and quiet a few broken/missing plastic parts and screws. So I've been setting a budget of 150 to 200 a month to order and replace parts or fix the problems as I go. I've almost got her to the point where I can start thinking about mods instead of restoration LOL. I believe the only things else are the cover inside the boot for a tail light, the lower seal rubber for the drivers door, and the lower windshield cover/cow.

I've got a list of aero / performance / cosmetic changes I want to do but got to get basics done first
