Maldives Blue to Audi S3 Ara Blue?

Almost a year ago I bought my 3.0 Z4 in Maldives Blue. I picked it up at a good price because the roof motor was broken and the paintwork and alloys were not in very good condition.

I thought I can fix the roof (which after some cut knuckles and lots of swear words is now working perfectly) and the rest of the problems were all cosmetic. I didn’t plan to keep this car for more than a year so cosmetics didn’t bother me.

But now I’m in love. I’m keeping her till I’m forced to sell for sure. And so now i’m planning on restoring the cosmetics.

That’s led me to think about re-spraying the whole car in the new Audi S3 Ara blue (or close to it). My Z4 needs so much attention already to the original Maldives blue, it will probably not cost too much more to respray the whole car. I feel like the Maldives Blue isn’t a colour that ages very well either? Mine is looking rather dreary.

My concern is that a colour change will make it difficult to sell on when I eventually sell. I’ve read that buyers are put off by colour changed cars? Is this true?

Oh, also i’m on the look out for a set of MV2 alloys. If anyone can point me in the direction of some available MV2’s I’m very interested :)
 
Ask someone to do a photo shop mock up first. Then decide.. IMHO a nom standard colour will be less desirable..BUT if it's done nicely and the resale price is good, someone else will love it for sure.
 
Yes, it might be harder to sell in a non-original colour.

But if you go down that route have you thought about BMW Yas Marina Blue? At least it's a BMW colour!
 
If it's an early high mileage car I can see a well executed cosmetic restoration and colour-change in a good colour attracting as many buyers as it puts off. It's your project to enjoy :thumbsup:

That colour is stunning, and tbh I could look the bollox a Z with the lines they have. Go for it fella.

Yup, that colour will do a fine job on a Zed. 8)
 
Have you considered a wrap? Then if you did struggle to sell due to colour change you could just take it off?
 
That is a beautiful blue, as echo'd above its your car/project so you do what puts a smile on your face.

Im slightly biased at Maldives Blue ;) Didn't they stop painting the Zeds in that colour at around 2005??
 
Clear indicators make a Maldives blue car look much younger, and better. If you have ginger ones OP consider swapping them out for clear.
 
My ha'penny worth - if you are doing a colour change it has to be the whole car including engine bay unless the colour combination works. Only an opinion of course. Good luck with your decision making though.

The boot and engine bay isnt colour coded from the factory. Well not on the prefacelifts anyway.
 
Yep standard colour is black engine bay and boot, colour is blown over the top when it meets in a very diy at home type of fashion.
