Making an accurate offer Z4 2.0 Sport

I have seen a 2008 (March 08 reg) Z4 2.0 Sport with 13500 miles, Black metallic, black leather interior, bluetooth, heated seats. "M" features. It was a demonstrator for 4000 miles. Then private owner. It has never been serviced. I have asked for them to service and MOT it. They said they would. Service indicator states there is 3500 to go to first oil service. Bodywork and interior VGC.

I have paid to do a more accurate valuation on Parker's but I am still not sure about the value of this motor. It says it is worth about £14200. That is what the seller says it is worth. I have offered £13500 and had a refusal. He wants £14000.

What do I offer?

Is it ok for it to have reached nearly 3 years old without any service?

Maximum service period should be two years regardless of usage, where an oil service should be carried out.

I'm sure it will be fine, but personally I wouldn't buy a three year old car that hadn't been serviced properly as what else has the owner neglected.
 
x 2 on the servicing. I wouldn't have thought that this car would trade for much more than £12k at max so your offer of £13.5k seems quite generous, wouldn't offer any more.
 
Leave him your number and tell him he's got a week til you buy something else. There won't be a queue this time of year.

I wouldn't get too hung up about the service thing personally - if it was older and higher mileage, and you intended to keep it for only a short time then maybe (I'm guessing it around the 13-16k mark?), but its no biggie....and the 2.0 is a lot more resilient than the bigger cars, especially the M's, which seem quite demanding as regards servicing.....plus of course, being site members, we are all anal as f*ck :rofl:

Could it have been sitting with the battery disconnected for several months, hence why it still claims the first oil service is 3500 miles away? As srhutch says the maximum service interval is 2 years and the car should be telling you this.
 
Well the seller is a pilot. He had just flown in and his uniform was in the boot. He says it is his wife's car and she is pregnant.

I did ring the BMW service dept of the garage that sold it to them and they said servicing intervals depend on the way in which the car is driven. They said nothing about servicing it after 2 years. They did not state it was untoward. It is marginally under 3 now. Surely the MOT and service on Tuesday will highlight anything worrying?

However, I am concerned about reselling it. I will probably want to sell in a year.

Also there were a couple of large cobwebs when he popped the bonnet. What is that white round plastic container near the front of the engine (brake fluid?) cos I thought it was empty?

It drove ok.
 
The mileage indicator is a countdown function to the next service based upon driving style and conditions, nothing to do with time. Regardless of these all Zeds need the oli changing and the brake fluid changing every 2 years which only cuts in for low mileage cars.

It's a common error to just rely on the counter.

If it's not done I'd either demand a drop in price or walk away and find another one as I don't like the idea of a car being kept for 3 years with zero maintenance :thumbsdown:
 
There is an alternative. A monaco blue 58 plate special edition 2.0 SE with champagne nappa leather seats and "M" features, 22,000 miles. 2 previous keepers £14750. I think this is one I test drove in Northants and decided not to go with as I was worried about the light colour of the nappa leather. (Kid in car etc). Now it has appeared in a garage the other side of the country. Would that be a good buy? It did have a slight dent in o/s door when I saw it and I thought the tracking was out.
 
When I had mine serviced for the first time it was a few months over 2 years and the service person said it should be ok but if anything is wrong the warrenty maybe effected......

Of course it had done so little miles and has extended warrenty now i dont think they can say too much.

2 years with the same oil scares me enough but 3 years!!!!! If i was using the Zed daily i would even consider yearly oil changes by an indy.

I doubt that 13k miles even over 3 years is going to be damaging to the engine. Skipping services is a common issue with very low mileage cars and is more likely to result in problems with things like brakes/handbrakes and ancillaries. The vendor should accept they have skimped and affected the value which is diminished by the cost of the service, plus any other problems and a knock in saleability.

£13.5 k is more than enough this time of year, I would think £13k was on the money.
 
mine has 34 k on the clock and been serviced only twice as the clock dictated i think the first service was around 14k its probably not a problem but there are plenty of cars out there it is a buyers market definatly :thumbsup:
 
No service is a concern bought mine Jan 08 on 11k at not much over 3 years old had an oil change at 6k but inspection 1 was not carried out till 09 as i do not do a lot of miles but i always change the oil every year if you think its a very nice car maybe get an inspection from BMW not sure what they would charge.
 
It's a lot of money for a 2.0 in my opinion....and I owned one....
Better to get a slightly older but more powerful car. Depending on your circumstances obviously :thumbsup:
