hi just wondering if anyone ever thought of making their own Indoor cover for their beloved Z ?

i have a relative who is very good with the old sewing machine.. and i can lay my hands on some lovely light parachute fabric...

If you have lots of time on your hands, and nothing better to do, go for it, a custom cover would no doubt fit very nicely.

For most of us though, its simply better to get the OEM cover.

Well thats one way to dampen Choppers spirits - You go for it Chopper, there is always some satisfaction of making something yourself and lets us know how you get on :D

There was no intention to dampen anything. As I said, if you have the time, go for it, but most don't and the OEM cover is a better proposition as it fits, and works. Making your own cover that fits well sounds ideal. I expect there could be quite a lot of work in it though to get it to fit the mirrors etc like the OEM cover does.

I just drape 2 kingsize cotton bedsheets over the Zed when stored during the winter. Seems to do the job and I don't appear to get any condensation etc.

Oh they were from Wilkos in white :)

I looked at the BMW indoor cover but its over 200 quid and not paying that :?

Not sure I would like anything tight fitting against the paintwork.

Tim.

exactly my thought.. but figured some parachute material is very lightweight / strong.. and is breathable..

no real intention in building it to fit, more a big drape i guess... if there were some plans to follow.. then fair enough.. but obviously without that.. it's lots of work

I make a make-shift bonnet cover for my old z4 as my parking spot was under a willow tree so the birds used to always take aim.

I got a king size double duvet cover (black, to match the car), and bought 4 large bouncy balls. I then tied them into each corner, to act as weights but they didn't dent the car as the bouncy ball bounced off if I knocked it. Anyway, I put this on every night, most nights I never blew off, and it worked amazingly!

go for it chopper, lets see some pics, love anything ex military too , a car cover with history ! of course if you had an M you could actually use the parachute as extr braking as a lot on here dont think the oem brakes are adequate, never had a problem with spirited fast road hooning but have never tracked it either. :driving:

For an indoor cover you could use just about any soft material and it wouldn't have to fit that well.

An outdoor cover, totally different kettle of fish.

Super Kingsize Is the way to go - I'm going to get a pair on Monday and get the stitched together by the local clothing alteration woman :D

Doesn't have to be anything flash - its only to keep the dust off!
