Main dealer versus Independent

I am considering having my car serviced at an independent (due in about 6k but planning ahead) What do people think are the advantages/disadvantages of using a good indy? My car has FBMWSH and I was kind of keen to maintain it. However, as my car depreciates to a level from which it wont drop much more in the near future, I'm wondering if its worth paying double for the service at the stealer. I have asked around at work (lots of BMW drivers) and a few people have used this place with positive experiences, http://prestigegermancars.co.uk//index.php?page=services. Have any of the Northern Members used it? If so what was your impression?

What model do you have?

2004 2.2 Roadster. I've just spoken to them at PGC and they say they use OEM parts, guranteed BMW standards. The company is owned by a BMW Master Technician and they quote £250.00 inclusive of parts, labour and VAT for a Inspection 2 service. Sounds like half price to me, Cooper quoted £425.00

No, that isn't half price. For example, Dick Lovett Swindon only charge £350. Get your dealer (or another one) to price match.

That said, £100 saving is not to be sniffed at, especially as the other one will take more time and care over it.

Not used a dealer or indy, have used the same garage for 10 yrs to sevice and repair the various cars we have had with no problems. When we part ex'd the 320ci sport coupe for the Zed the dealer asked about the service history, and we said that it had just been serviced but not by a dealer that did'nt seem to phase them. The garage we use do use BMW genuine parts and oils,we have recommended them to all or friends and the owner is honest guy and he only doe's what needs to be done.
The garage i use is The Auto Centre on Neasham Rd ,Darlington
