So now the festive season is in full swing I thought we’d have some fun based on the outcome of a discussion I had today with Sytner in Sheffield.

How much to supply and fit a Xenon headlight bulb on my E86?

Closest wins a pint of Stella at the Premier Inn in Oswestry on the eve of the North Wales run in April next year - no cheating.

If this is a D2S bulb they are just a touch over £404 each. They would then probably take the mick and charge an hours fitting time so around £574 inc vat fitted ish

Although they used to, possibly still do the D1s which are £245 each so if it’s that one then £415 inc vat ish

Time to call it - it will cost 248 of your sweet pounds inclusive of VAT well £248.66; the bulb on its own is £191 but don't forget the recommendation to fit both together.

They even had the nerve to ask me why I wouldn't be progressing the booking for customer satisfaction purposes - hopefully the calls are recorded for training & quality so someone will have a good laugh when they play my response back.

Anyway I went with the Osram Nightbreaker DS2 option from Amazon - two bulb pack arrives tomorrow for £76

That's what irritates me about main agents - much of the cost is the "customer satisfaction" nonsense + the review of the conversations!

I don't give a monkey's about all that sh1t, just do the job for a sensible price without loading it up with non-productive nonsense.

In my experience, if you have a good experience you'll be asked to fill out a customer satisfaction form. If you have a crap experience, then you never seem to receive the form to fill in.

I'm lucky that I had frequent visits to dealerships that the form would arrive asking my about my 'latest' visit - sometimes it only arrived the day after I'd torn the service manager a new one

They’ve only just opened the new dealership in Sheffield - apparently at 5.5 acres it’s the largest in the UK so I guess they’re looking to get some mortgage over payments in during the first year

Yup that’s a BMW standard price for them, I’m sure a deal could be done with regards to the price if it was the only option. I however would be buying from elsewhere. I’d want a decent longevity guarantee for that money!
