Main Control Unit Airbag Replacement Options

I have had the airbag light on for all my time owning the car (2 years  ). I've been back & forth trying to solve the issue but it might finally come to replacing the module. In the past, I have tried to use second-hand modules but my garage said that they could not code them to the chassis. I've had Colb help me with the airbag & we were able to find that it was the main control unit airbag that was causing the issue & my garage confirmed it too this week. The code is 93db, I am able to get the code cleared for a while as the last time I got it MOT'd was right after they cleared the code but it did come back. I want to get it cleared for good so I will only have to worry about engine lights  . My Current Options are:

Option 1) Buy a new replacement unit - The issue with this is the unit (Part Number 65776935920) for my car is no longer sold new. However, RealOEM.com states that the unit has been superseeded by 4 newer units which the website states are exchangeable retrospectively (65776965147, 65776938264, 65776939811 & 65776962767). However, they are either sold on Ebay by someone in Lithuania (oem_genuine_parts with 28,017 reviews at 96.3% positive Feedback) for £740 or by hubauer-shop.de for €670 but hubauer-shop.de doesn't make it clear if the part is new as it describes it as Vehicle-bound spare parts, the website also seems to crash all the time & has been rated 2.5/5 on TrustPilot so I'm not sure about trusting it. If I choose this option then I will still have to get the garage to install the part & any necessary coding so it would be looking at close to £1,000.

Option 2) Try swapping the chips in the second-hand module so that it can align with the Chassis Number - I still have the second-hand module so I would only need to get someone to swap the chips and the spare module I have has the same part number. However, the garage warned me that the chip might be the issue with the Airbag unit so this doesn't guarantee that it'll fix the unit. Is anyone else more knowledgeable than me would be able to say if this would or would not work? If this doesn't work then it leads me back to option 1

If anyone has had the same issue as me what did you do to fix it?

My garage suggested that I could get the Airbag light removed but that would come through as a minor on the MOT & I would want the airbags to work in case I'm in an accident. I could also just clear the code before it's due it's MOT but again I want the airbags to work. The car is due it's MOT in mid February so I have a bit of time but I want to get it sorted ASAP.

If I remember correctly it is the step up convertor or some such fault code in the main module you have with the current module fitted.
Real Oem list compatable module numbers that will fit your car so find a used one that comes from an error free car (not a crashed car) then code it to your car as it will reqire your Vin number put into it so it can talk to the satellite modules and vicky verka. System time will also need starting for the module to work. After all that your light should go out and remain out as long as there are no faults.
Ask Umfann ( Barry at Bridgend) if he has any compatable modules, he just broke a 2.5 with clear main airbag module, I scanned it for him before he stripped it out.

This is what we tried last time. We tried with the B Pillar but found that wasn't the issue, then again with the main central module. We were unsuccessful in coding it to the VIN so I tried a garage & they said they couldn't either. I have still got the spare airbag modules & neither have any fault codes or warnings so I could see if they can change the chips in them so the VIN should match. I was just wondering if people who had the same issue found that this fixed the issue & that they were able to get the VIN to match too.

Swapped a couple for people now and have been able to code them with no issues.
There is a link on here somewhere to a guide written by MAC20……???
Initially the last step had a small error but that’s now corrected, regarding system time.

Not sure about changing the chips inside these modules you might end up with totally bricked modules, not seen anyone do this before.

I am about to return to my E86 with an airbag light problem and dread what I will find. Luckily I am close to Colb. In view of all of these problems doesn’t Colb or enuff-zed wish to offer an airbag diagnosis and repair service? I think a lot of us would travel a long way to get this worry bead resolved once and for all.

There are several others dotted around the country who are equally (and in most cases far more) adept at this as I am. I will always offer to help out people within my area if I can, but whilst I can find and fix a lot of stuff, I am by no means a software guru.
I can use the various software packages as a tool, but diving inside modules to correct them is way above my abilities.
Don't let this put you off asking me, but be prepared for me to honestly say it's beyond me. However, in a lot of those cases I can point you towards someone more qualified.
