Main beam

Hi ,
Now that I’m confined to barracks like most people I thought it’s about time the Z4 3.0si gets some love.
My question is about main beam with xenon lights.
Ive searched through posts on here and other sites but I’m still confused whether my main beam is actually working, MOT up soon !

The symptoms are :
lights off and flash pull = Blue light on dash lights up and headlights flash
Lights on = flash pull on the stalk, blue light lights up but no noticeable light intensity
Lights on = Flick on main beam, same as above.
The dipped and sidelights work fine .

I think I’m correct in that a lense moves when you select main beam and there is no main beam bulb as in traditional lights. I tried the lights last night whilst it was dark and I’m sure i cant detect a difference in the light throw when on dipped or main !
Would a diag such as iCarly show up a fault in the lighting circuit or ECU ?

Any help would be most appreciated as its stumping me at the moment
 
with facelift xenons the bulb is on for low beam and when you put high beam on all it does is open the shutter, same bulb on. you can't flash when high beam on.

Probably another stupid question but should you be able to see the shutter move when high beam is selected and also would it throw an error code if they weren’t working ?
When you say you can’t flash when high beam is on, I get that however when on dipped beam should you be able to flash ?
I suppose my main concern is that when driving and high beam is selected there doesn’t appear to be any noticeable difference in the light throw .
