MAF at 0, is it normal?

Hello, I am the proud owner of a Z4 2.0i 2005 N46 engine, and I am a bit stumped with a problem.

My MAF has been giving me 0 readings, I have only just noticed recently when looking at INPA and ODB Fusion. I have tried swapping it out for 2 new ones (I had assumed they were duds, and returned them) and checked the wiring to the DME, which is all ok. Voltages are fine as per other forum searches.

I am a bit at a loss whether there is an issue or this is totally normal? I saw another thread where there was some debate about this but there was no definite answer about it, any clues or hints?

Do you actually have a running issue with the car?
If not and you were just messing about with inpa then stop looking!

The car runs fine, but I did have an issue with CO emissions for MOT (probably still do) and long term negative fuel trim, which led me to investigate the fuel/oxygen systems in the car

As a general rule MAFs should read the size of the engine or a little more at idle. For example: a 3.0L will generally read 3-3.5 Grams per second at idle.

That's what I thought as well, but having gone through 3 physical MAFs and checked the wiring to the DME, I am a bit at a loss as to why I am not getting any readings... and of course, whether that is totally normal (car was made mid 2005)

I had exactly the same on my 2.0 it never gave any readings at all in 11 years of ownership, but was never a problem. So i would say don't let it worry you and enjoy the zed. (y):driving:
