Now this one is a very emotive subject and there will be people with lots of different opinions.
It's all kicked off already on FB and someone posted this link which I thought made for very interesting reading : http://gerrymccan-abuseofpower-humanrights.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/100-reasons-why-madeleine-mccann-was.html?spref=fb , if only to show how the same evidence can be interpreted in different ways.
Whichever way you feel about it, who else is watching Crimewatch tonight ? I am !

The GF who is a cop who is very opinionated on this case will definitely be watching, were of the opinion they did it :fuelfire:

What news can be discovered after all this time?
Well this is what I don't get. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable even in the immediate aftermath ( for research evidence see Loftus et al ), never mind after 6 years !
Be interesting to see what they have to say on Crimewatch.

I spent a lot of time in the middle east ......
White kids get stolen and sold all the time .....
Spend some time online and see just how many "groups" are involved in trying to get them back.

The McCanns screwed up by leaving their kids unattended .... But its hardly exceptional, it happens all the time in places like that.

I believe 100% that she was taken ......
I doubt very much that she is still alive ......
With all the publicity the case got, she would have become a liability very quickly .....

:D

Shouldn't though - if people took being parents seriously. Since we have had our boy, we have always had cottage/villa holidays to make sure we can eat in the house/garden so that he can't wander/be kidnapped. It irks that they have always said it wasn't their fault. Well, yes, they were partly to blame if indeed she got abducted, as they left their 4 yr old basically in charge of the toddlers. Let's be honest, if they had not been white middle class, but a single mum & her current bf from a rough estate, they would have been crucified for this by the press.

I think she's dead too.
If she did get taken by someone for extremely bad reasons, then I hope, for her sake, she is dead.
Hopefully the truth will out one day and the best outcome is she is alive and well with someone who has been caring for her but I think that's very doubtful.

It's just a blog with a load of unsubstantiated claims. You can prove anything you want like that. The Portuguese police completely misinterpreted the DNA analysis, accused the McCanns of murder and the disgusting British press did all they could to demonize them both and the the stupid British public believe every thing they read in the papers.

I did point out that the blog was interesting in terms of showing how the data can be interpreted in different ways. Didn't say it proved anything - just food for thought. I actually think that the British press are still doing their usual of building them up, knocking them down, building them up.
It's not only the stupid British public who believe what is written in the papers, I think most people do. I know so many people in German who take "Bild Zeitung" as gospel, from all walks of life, it is truly scary.

That may well be true, but one element is something you can't get away from - who leaves their children by themselves, especially abroad?

Yes, that's something I've never been able to understand.

25 years ago I may have well left my kids in an hotel room if I was in ear shot of them

Just listening to this program - and they actually said that she was crying the night before whilst they were not there and asked them (parents) where they were, and they still went out again the next day ????

It was a criminal offence to leave them unsupervised.
