Machine polish work/price?

I dropped my brother off to collect his car last night, he'd had a guy fix a long scratch over 3 panels. Not deep, but he's trying to sell. Anyway, he paid £80 for the guy to machine it out. I got talking and he said for £120 he'd machine polish my Z for me. 2 stages of polish then a wax.

I'm left wondering how he'd do it for so little? The work on my brothers car is brilliant! But for £120 to mark the car and go over each panel 3 times seems too good to be true (and we all know what is said about that!).

After time to wash, mask, materials & VAT, he can't be earning any money! It's got to take a working day to do all that, £100 minus materials is say £80 a day...£10/hour, thats without considering renting the unit he's in etc.

Anyone want to volunteer their car for a go?! Could put the clio in and see how it fairs!

Actually, a good wash on my brothers may reveal more. If it's just been coated to death to cover it up.

Seems cheap.

had a 1989 300sl which was wet sanded machine polished and detailed by a one man band detailer who works from home in Aylesbury. He had all the kit and the results were amazing. It took him 4 days work and he charged £400. That was a few years ago so it would be about £500 now. The car had had repairs over the years particularly to the rear wheel arch which had been knocked so there were a lot of swirls and scratches on the paint, he got most of the scratches out, refurbed the hood too. He does a lot of work on very high end motors both classic and modern and now also does leather work. If anyone wants details please pm me

Just found the pictures of the merc before and after

I think for £120 he won't be masking anything up or washing it beforehand . His work is probably based on speed so I would imagine he would be done in 3-4 hours .

...and we know what happens if you do stuff without things being spotlessly clean don't we Mr. Lynch....

Angelwax is fairly close to where I live and apparently they polish and wax your car for around £95.
Theres someone in my wifes work gets this done every now and again.
I spent most of Saturday doing my own and although every mark has not disappeared I am really happy with how it turned out.
No more millions of swirl marks when the sun shines on it.

I have just had a price from 2x paint correction places near me and just for a 2 stage (as thats all it needs) and applying the Serum Light and 2x coats of Exo v2 they priced it at £400 and would require it for 4 days.
As has been said i would be very wary of someone doing it for £120
