I think and i wont rush myself as every dead line i come up with i miss!! Hopefully by the end of May i will have it all done and machines in and installed. I have a few jobs on the go for other members that i need to get warped up then i can start work on my car. But the list of jobs is quite long and i am not sure weather to do them or trade the car for something else???
Things to do
1 new front wish bones and track rod ends
2 all new bushes rear end and in stall the LSD I am planing on sandblasting and painting all the suspension components while i do this and fit new rear brake lines.
3 Get 4 wheel alignment done.
4 the wheels could do with a polish (rubber off and back on the machine for this)
5 take the lower union joint of the steering rack and either strip and re grease or install new.
6 finally get round to the seat mod i have been planing for over a year!! (standard seats are just so rubbish)
7 sort out the paint work front bumper passengers side wing bonnet boot lid and possibly the rear quarters all need a repaint.
8 Finnish and install the quad / 2 new back boxes i have started and not finished.
9 find and solve all the 100s of squeaks and rattles from the dash and surrounding trim. Since i had the dash out to find what wires a mouse had munched on its not been right.
10 Sort the only occasionally and slightly stick caliper.

So its quite a long list of jobs to do I feel that i brought a Friday car as i have had a long list of problems. After its all done i am sure i will love it again. But at the moment its just a PITA and i never drive it as it annoys me. Or do i take a few bits off sell them and hand the car over to the monkeys at we buy any car and get something new? Tempted by a Z4M but also quite fed with BMW?!?

Any advice encouragement welcome fellow forum buddy's

I,m not a fan of any car that has been pulled to bits & put back again Mat so go with your WBAC plan & shift it on .
Then find your wallet from wherever you have it hidden :D & go for a bargain M roady http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201308238455253/sort/default/usedcars/postcode/bb120hr/make/bmw/engine-size-cars/3l_to_3-9l/model/z4/radius/70/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/price-to/9000/price-from/8000/page/1?logcode=p

I have viewed this car 3 times & it,s virtually unmarked . Yes the dealer may have a bad reputation but have the car inspected & it may be worth a punt

Unmarked but sat outside in the rain with the roof down in the pictures :poke: :fuelfire:

Looks nice though

A lot of miles a dodgy dealer!! I am not sold Mr Wilks!!

Haha , fortune favours the brave Mat
Mileage is well reflected in the price & once the car is yours the dealership is insignificant
FBMWSH / if this was a private sale with the selling owner having covered all the 117k it would be a cherished & well looked after example
The dealer wouldn,t put me off but i would want my Indy friend to inspect it first . if i was after one that is

I was brave buying this one and it has continuously kicked me in the nuts!!!

It is tempting to be honest especially as i only do about 4-6k a year in the car!!

We buy any car offered 4k bound to drop dramatically once they see it!! This might be a non runner i am stuck with a dud for the foreseeable!!

In all honesty bad cars can come from private sellers & main agents as well as back street dealers which is why i always take each vehicle on it,s own merits .
Sometimes the price factors in the element of risk ? sometimes not .
It does look like a car that has been looked after & 117k from one owner in my eyes is no worse than 75k with 5 owners  it just affects the value of course

Yeah i see where your coming from. I just dont think its viable all our cash is going into the house and the other car at the moment. I think with the sate of my car and its value i am stuck with it. Unless i strip it and sell all the bits off. But with that amount of work i might as well just put it all right.

The z4 = no fun at the moment!! :(

Blimey Mat,

Sounds like you're having a bit of a mare. Try not to get bogged down and just attack it one at a time. I finally got new bumper clips and headlights for mine the other day, what a difference!

It's your car and you have made it your own way, just take some time getting it back to mecahanically sound and then get on with some painting. I read you were saying about the bumper needing some filler, well Sim Simma on here gave me some great advice with regards to getting a nice finish, once you've sanded it back, fillered and primered (in grey), hit the whole bumper with a mist coat of black primer, then sand it down one last time, and don't stop sanding until there's no black primer left, should be nice and smooth then.

So, in a very work like fashion, see my comments below in bold:

That looks brilliant, a credit to you!

Things to do
1 new front wish bones and track rod ends Honestly, three hours work tops, really worth doing too.
2 all new bushes rear end and in stall the LSD I am planing on sandblasting and painting all the suspension components while i do this and fit new rear brake lines.See, now this isn't necessary maintenance, but a fun thing to get that LSD fitted!
3 Get 4 wheel alignment done. Crucial on any car, just find somewhere reasonable with laser alignment. Hunter preferable. I recently paid only £60 down in Cheltenham
4 the wheels could do with a polish (rubber off and back on the machine for this) Don't be such a tart ;)
5 take the lower union joint of the steering rack and either strip and re grease or install new. Why's this??
6 finally get round to the seat mod i have been planing for over a year!! (standard seats are just so rubbish) Another indulgence that can wait until last..
7 sort out the paint work front bumper passengers side wing bonnet boot lid and possibly the rear quarters all need a repaint. If you're going to learn yourself, the zed is a good choice as a lot of panels bolt off. If you don't fancy painting, then I'd hire a van for the afternoon, drive to a breakers and nick a load of body panels (phone up and do a deal first) silver zed's are so common in scrappers it seems, you should be able to get a right bargain! (plus I have 1 good condition and one OK condition side skirt for you still)
8 Finnish and install the quad / 2 new back boxes i have started and not finished. Another indulgence! It looks and sounds fine as it is!
9 find and solve all the 100s of squeaks and rattles from the dash and surrounding trim. Since i had the dash out to find what wires a mouse had munched on its not been right.I have a load of foam tape I can give you (got from work) very expensive but will solve a lot of the plastic rubbing issues.
10 Sort the only occasionally and slightly stick caliper. Bloody easy and should be top of the list. Normally just strip and grease sliders... or man up and buy those brembos!!!!!

So its quite a long list of jobs to do I feel that i brought a Friday car as i have had a long list of problems. After its all done i am sure i will love it again. Overall I'd say it's all very do-able, and has just been small issues that have built up.

Your probably right Rob. I have been putting things off to get the workshop done and making exhaust tips!! Now the garden looks a mess as well for the same reason so i need to sort that :headbang:

Their are just not toughen hours in the day buddy!!!

Hey Matt

It's a Shame you feel that way about your car.

Why not take a step back from the z4, concentrate on getting the workshop done (which is a great man cave btw)
And house etc done first then when, if you do in a couple of months have some free time then think of the options with regard to sell or tinker.
I hope you don't sell it :|

To me it sounds like you have way to many big projects on your plate mate.

Have you viewed it in the metal Gav ?

Hey Luke I suspect your right. To many things going on. But when I want to just go for a drive to get away from it all I can't

I won't rush into anything. But it all seems a bit much at the moment!! First off I think I need to sort the calliper and control arms and track rod ends. Hopefully it will drive better then.

I wish I was a bit closer,I'm no mechanic (at all!) but I would like to help you get it working.

If you wanna go out for a ride what about that stunning red thing next to the zed?. :driving:

The red one is not mine and my wile wife keeps a very close eye on the fuel figures :? So no real fun :driving:

Glad you got it working Luke  inspiration for me buddy :)

Sounds like you need some time off the treadmill Mat  i have a tendency to box myself in at times & sometimes a couple of days stepping back can help you see the way forward
